iPhone spurned as you vote for five best phones

There's been a whole raft of new phones out this year, some of which you loved and some of which made you so angry, you took to our comments and mashed your keyboards in rage.

In this video we're taking a look through the five most popular phones this week on CNET UK, as measured by the number of clicks on the 'I want it' and 'I've got it' buttons on our reviews.

5. Samsung Galaxy Ace -- The Galaxy Ace is clearly taking style tips from its more expensive cousin, the Galaxy S2, but it cuts back on performance and screen resolution, making it a much more affordable option.

4. Samsung Galaxy Nexus -- We were massively excited about the Galaxy Nexus, with its awesome screen and cutting-edge Android 4.0 software. Sadly, a volume bug meant that we had to score it down, which caused something of an outcry from you guys -- but really, wouldn't it have been worse if we'd told you to buy something that didn't work? Either way, it's been fixed now, so the Nexus can go back to being a lovely bit of kit.

3. Samsung Galaxy S2 -- That's right, it's all Galaxy, all the time. The Galaxy S2 has been one of the most popular products on the site since its launch earlier this year, thanks to its big bright screen, powerful processor and great camera. It's undoubtedly going to remain a popular choice into the new year -- especially as we just named it our best phone of 2011.

2. Nokia Lumia 800 -- So it's not all Galaxy, just mostly. The Lumia 800 may well have been Nokia's final attempt to claw back some fans after falling so far behind, so thankfully, it's a very good attempt. We're big fans of this curved chap and its Windows Phone operating system -- so keen in fact, it caused our very own Rich Trenholm to switch over.

1. Samsung Galaxy Note -- That's right, another Galaxy. What is it with you guys and galaxies? We're not convinced this thing really is a phone -- mostly because its 5.3-inch screen makes it absolutely massive. Still, we're assured it still qualifies as one, and its huge popularity on the site this week has made it reach the number one spot.

So there we have the top five phones on the site, as voted for by you. Notice anything missing? This the first time an iPhone hasn't even made it to the top five. Come on Apple, step up your game!

Make sure to check back next time for more of the most popular tech.

No one wants an iPhone 4s with it's already 1 year old outdated hardware specs and it's software that hasn't changed since 2007. iPhone has become nothing more than a fashion statement. No techie would be caught dead with an iPhone or a blackberry.

Please no techie would be caught with iPhone? I am one, work in tech industry and have one. Tried Samsung Galaxy S in July for 1 month. Determined while the Andriod software has promise, it is not ready for primetime with the functions I need it for, namely reliable connection to multiple Exchange servers, which should be a basic function for business phones, but I had to buy a $19.95 app just to get a reliable non-crashing version that would accurately sync with multiple Exchange servers. My customers who have them as long as they are using Gmail do not have these issues, but try connecting to something other than through pop3/imap without the thing crashing. I was so frustrated after one month of use, I switched back to my iPhone 4. People want a phone that works reliablely without problems or issues. Having to reboot your phone daily because it has crashed is not what I want. Give this techie his reliable, stable, iPhone. The only reason any other phone has traction is due to restricted availability of iPhone and pricing, both of which I think Apple made mistakes on initially and they continue to do so. I will revisit the use of an Andriod based device each year, as I like some of the features and promise, but if it is not stable and reliable, I can always fall back to my iPhone 4/4s.

Bizarre - we have NO issues with Android phones connecting to our Exchange infrastructure via activesync??

No end of issues with calendar and meeting sync issues with iPhones

Android will never be used as a viable business phone. It's far too open to attack.
I was watching TV the other day and there was an ad for an android tablet came on, and they were offering free antivirus software for it. ANTIVIRUS software, for my tablet !! I did an actual facepalm.

I have the iPhone 4s and its great. Why do people think a phones software has to drastically change with every update for a phone to be good. I don't want to change the way i work all the time. IOS is perfectly efficient. People like to jump on the bandwagon hating Apple, it so lazy.

"No techie would be caught dead with an iPhone" - I develop apps for both Android and iPhone, and my main phone is an iPhone. Why? Because having used both platforms, and developed for both platforms, I prefer iPhone and IOS.

It interesting though, observing the tribe psychology that causes one camp to slate the other camp without ever having tried the alternative, and watching choice supportive bias in action.

Consider this is cnet. Not exactly an Apple site, IYKWIM. Funny how desperate Fandroids are getting. All those sales are nothing, iPhone market is huge compared to any Android. Just try looking for a simple product like a case. It's like using a Mac in the middle of the 90's if you have ANY android. Good luck finding any support.

No real surprise. The iPhone is a very good phone but it's boring and everyone has one. Truly the Ford Focus of the phone world these days.

One more note on Andriod phones with Exchange connection. I have customers that use them that just loose their settings all of the sudden, then have to reprogram them. I have never had that happen on an iPhone. If you want a stable reliable phone that works and has a ton of apps, buy the iPhone. If you want a promising phone that techs love and they don't mind fixing it when it breaks (oh and trust me it will) then get the Samsung.

i'm another developer for android and ios. i use both phones all the time because we develop apps and there is no way you could get me to use android outside of work. android is doing better but it has a long way to go. the iphone is simple, fast and eminently usable. not many people realize that siri is a total game changer.

i can see the android manufacturers trying to poison peoples psychology thru ads, videos and with other means before they buy an iphone so that some people will turn to android but i know those people would be much more happy with an iphone. if you want to live in the future get an iphone 4s. if your eyes are not so good instead of getting some big clunky large screen android phone learn to triple click on the iphone to zoom text or images anywhere. for your own sake i hope if you buying test the phone for a week instead of relying on peoples prejudices.

LOL@The Fandroids.... "Hey, check this out, I just spent the last 72 hours tweaking out every stupid thing possible on my phone for no reason! I love the freedom it gives me!"

Im sure you guys pick up a lot of chicks with that one... Maybe it would help if you spent a little more time grooming yourselves so you dont look homeless, and a little less time masturbating with your Android.

I wonder why peoples' psycho-emotional states are so connected with their chosen contemporary communications device....
I wonder to what extent "bid for popularity" is connected to factors other than the device itself...
And finally, I wonder what people will ignore asking themselves these questions and flame, and who will try something different with the determined effort of finding something that does not only what they wamt, but maybe something they didn't previously know they wanted, or understood.

android is rubbish. Rubbish from the head to the toe. I hate that they are trying sooo hard to overtake iOS by going

"oh look at us, we've got moving wallpapers and you can like tweak every single corner of it and stuff. Yes your battery would run down quicker and yes most of the things you download could potentially be a virus and yes it'll make your phone incredibly laggy but WHO CARES!! It's OPEN SOURCE!!

Am not saying I hate the phones that run android I mean the Samsung galaxy s II and galaxy nexus are STUNNING phones and really powerful but even they find it hard to run android because of GOOGLE pushing it to an extent to where the phone should not be pushed at this of age of time. Let's not forget that though smartphone have become more powerfully to use, they ARE NOT A DESKTOP COMPUTER OR LAPTOP!

it's made it seem Laggy and so annoying to use and if you use an iPhone and swap to an android phone you literally see a massive change in speed. It's sooooooooooo laggy.

This is generally why I think android would soon die out and businesses would stop supporting it. If apple by any chance opened up iOS to run on other none-apple devices what stupid enough company would stick with android?

I really think the competition is with WP7 and the iPhone (iOS). One of these two would become victorious because android is just flawed in so many ways and levels.

iPhones are becoming the new Blackberrys. All teenage girls are switching from BBs to iPhones. They are everywhere. And 99% of iPhone users know nothing about their phone! They buy it because apple has brainwashed them into thinking its the best phone available.

I don't mind iPhone users who know what they are talking about, they have an iPhone because the iPhone covers their needs.

I am a former Android user and there were many problems with it but I loved it! I am now a WP7 user and I love it and I love everything about it, but I prefer Android. Its amazing when its working but then you have the lag and you hate it, but after that you really appreciate the speed once more.

No iphone - except, 4 of the 5 phones listed take definite design cues from the iphone. Also, lets not forget that Samsung provide some of the important "outdated" internals to Apple for iphone manufacturing.

"as measured by the number of clicks on the 'I want it' and 'I've got it' buttons on our reviews" - so easy to game that system folks, have you ever heard of 50-centers?

Now perhaps we can stop comparing every new device with an iPhone or iPad or iMac or iTunes or iReally don't give a toss. iphones are boring boring boring. Everyone has one, they all look the same and they are so yesterday in terms of development. Samsung and HTC are the ones we need to compare new stuff to, period.

In the long run its a numbers game, android phones are selling more and their numbers are increasing, allied to this is a greater freedom and scope. Apple, however ingenious, is one company against, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft etc. In my opinion, for the iphone to survive apple must change its ethos and become more open and less restrictive. A point evidenced by one of the the main reasons some choose android over iphone the fact that unbelivably iphone has no flash player.
