The next iPhone and its accompanying iOS 7 software has apparently turned up in developer logs, indicating the next-generation phone is already in the testing stages.
The log, shown off to The Next Web, highlights the code 'iPhone 6,1'. The iPhone 5 -- Apple's current flagship -- bears the moniker iPhone5,1 or 5,2 in the logs, suggesting that this is indeed the next generation of phone.
Without any further details however, it's impossible to judge whether the phone is a complete overhaul in the form of an iPhone 6, or whether it relates to a more modest update in the form of an iPhone 5S. That of course means that any potential specs for the new superphone remain as much of a mystery as the whereabouts of Wally -- although I find he's usually behind the fruit stall.
The log also refers to the next iteration of Apple's mobile operating system iOS 7 although again, details are non-existent. Apple typically releases developer versions of its software at its WWDC event in June, so we may have a while to wait before we hear anything more concrete.
Although it's possible for particularly cunning people to fake these identifier codes, TNW notes that the IP addresses used with the phone originates from Apple's Cupertino headquarters. It's therefore more likely that this is indeed a genuine model being tested on site, rather than some cheeky code faking.
If you can't wait until June for new tech then don't fret, for massive technology show CES kicks off in Vegas next week and we'll be bringing you new of all the latest releases. If it's phones that get your motor running then keep your eyes peeled for Mobile World Congress in February. In the meantime, make sure to keep it CNET UK for all the latest.
Are you excited about the next iteration of Apple's phone? Are you more keen to hear what Samsung has up its sleeve for the Galaxy S4? Let me know all your musings in the comments below and over on our excellent Facebook page.

The iPhone 6 or 5S or what ever its going to be called better be good, I have a iPhone 4 and I haven't seen Apple do anything particularly new since then and Googles X-Phone is looking to be a game changing phone so I may be crossing platforms unless Apple can amaze me like they did with the iPhone 4.

I am extremely excited for the launch, the idea of having an extra row of apps on the iPhone will be very clever and useful, kudos to apple

Oh yeah an extra row of apps, very clever that is LMFAO... I think apple bringing out a new phone and os so soon after iPhone 5 have realised how bad and outdated the iPhone 5 actually is but with the likes of the next gen of android blowers just around the corner I.e. galaxy S4 apple will still be out of date, best thing I did was leave apple,so boring and dull.....

Google maps app was a move in the right direction. The option to make it the default map app would be welcome. iOS is boring compared to JB, they need to allow at least some personalisation and quick settings for wifi etc.
For now I'm delighted with my Nexus 4, arguably the best phone on the market at half the price. Cheap sims all round. However nearly returned it for an ip5 as it really is at the limit in terms of size. Yes I got used to it quickly but the rumours suggest the flagship Android devices are only going to get bigger which would be a mistake IMO. If Apple can modernise their software it could nick its crown back off samsung. cnet >>> i cant see what im typing, please upgrade your comments section

Maybe it's a 6 inch iPhone?

Where is the story here?
Apple introduce a new version of iOS every year and release updates in between.
The do this every year, like other OS developers.
Why should it be news that they are testing the new OS?
They'll always be testing the next OS and updates on an ongoing basis.
The same goes for the next model of iPhone.
as long as they are in the Smartphone business, they'll always be testing the next new iPhone.

Great. The soccer moms and chavs who still buy the iPhone will be excited I guess.

I heard one of the reasons why iPhones cannot get much bigger is due to most of the developers of apps making the decision to put the back button in the top left. Any bigger and it is too far for the thumb to stretch. Note that on Android devices there is always a back button in the same place - bottom left.
I think Apple will have problems in making a decision about how they change their UI - they have a massive double edged sword of easy to use simplicity for some and dated/boring for others. They'll be damned by the non-tech savy if they do and damned by early adopters if they don't.

So what? Does anyone care about apple? The company stopped being innovative back in 2009/2010. It's just a patent troll now.
And I don't think iphone 6 is going to be innovative - meybe they'll add some features that could be added years ago - like NFC, AMOLED screen or the ability to transfer file to and from a phone wihtout ajtjunz....

I love the hatred apple devices or os' recieve. It makes me enjoy mine that little bit more to hear some individual claim the downfall of any company based on no evidence and biased opinionation.
Time will tell if the newest stuff is any good. All the people on this thread care quite a lot about Apple.
Good luck to them all.

Why would Apple make an IOS update that would hurt the iPhone?
