As the Earth turns slowly on its axis, and with the inevitability of a sun's collapse, rumours are beginning to swirl regarding Apple's follow-up to the iPhone 5. Now the Internet has offered up a glimpse of what Apple's next mobile could look like. And wouldn't you know it? It looks pretty much the same as the current iPhone.
The snap above was spotted on the iphone5parts.net forum by French site Nowhereelse.fr. They show a casing that looks a lot like the iPhone 5's, but with differently placed internal fixings.
It could be a hoax, or a casing from a fake phone, but slightly tweaked internals would make sense as Apple will likely stuff its next smart phone with all-new components, like a faster processor or bigger battery.
If genuine, the chunk of housing would suggest Apple may stick with the 4-inch display it introduced with the iPhone 5.
We were fond of that big, bright panel when we gave Cook and company's latest phone the review treatment, but the iPhone 5 isn't perfect in other respects -- it's extremely pricey at £529, and comes with Apple's atrocious Maps app.
We're still miles off an official announcement from Apple regarding a new smart phone, but the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 both leaked extensively in the run-up to their grand debut, so keep your eyes trained to this site for the inside story on the next iPhone.
The iPhone 5S, or iPhone 6 or new iPhone or iPhone 6: Revenge of the iPhone will probably make its debut in autumn next year, and will have to compete with whatever Samsung has planned to follow on from the Galaxy S3, as well as Nexus devices from Google.
What does Apple need to stick in its next mobile to make it the best mobile around? Is the iPhone's star fading at last, or is the best yet to come? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

it's simple they can't make a phone that looks in anyway different from the iphone 4 or 5 this is a consequence of their overly aggressive action "defending" the unique shape of the range,I find it quite funny that they have managed back themselves into a corner regarding the design of the products.

Why be so angry at Apple, non of the S ranges have differed from their earlier counterparts. It doesn't bother me, the way my contracts go, I always end up with the S model.
And, in what way are we 'Trapped' by Apple?
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:12
Trapped, enslaved, locked-in....the same old bo**ocks.
The only trapped people are the religious Apple haters; trapped in their delusions.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:44
just like religious apple fanboys! Why is there soooo many apple haters?
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:48
@Peter Hudson really, the s range has not changed in looks! you are either blind or have very poor observation skills!

If this is really a 5S, then it will just be an upgrade to the existing model and not the next new iPhone.
Just as the 4S was an update of the 4.

So soon? To be honest, I don't really care anymore about what it looks like, the iPhone's lost its hype, and more people will begin to shift and pay for value and innovation rather then premium and static. You can't churn out the same diamond on the same ring every year.

The vast majority of people that brought the iPhone 5 were people that had an iPhone before, there's a CNET UK article about it. That what the above comments mean by trapped.

@Matt Winston atleast someone's got the brains to figure out what trapped means. iPhone users are to scared to see what it's like to have a cheaper but better device lol but that's thier problem not mine!

What the hell are you all on about, I have had an iPhone, a 3GS, and currently a 4S. I did upgrade from my 4GS to a Galaxy S2 but I didn't like the feel of android so I made the choice to go to a 4S. I wasn't forced into it, It wasn't my only option (I very nearly bought a lumia), but I weighed it all out and an iPhone was the best phone for me at the time.
When I go to change my 4S, I will probably consider a Windows phone again, but I don't know.
The fact is, if you use a mac, you are open Android, windows, and iOS.
If you use a Mac, you are open to many options for buying content, you are just as free as if you use a windows computer

Your probably one in a million Peter to do that and I respect you for doing that. If you've still got an S2 try out ICS if you haven't already.
Here's the article I was one about http://crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/iphone-5-sales-in-3-days-match-first-month-for-4s-50009272/

I'm an Android user.
I can only buy apps that work on Android devices.
I can't buy apps for iOS or Windows 8
Google feed off my data and sell information on me without my permission and I don't get a share of what they earn from me.
Help I must be trapped !!!!!!
Seriously, I am an Android user and fan, but that anti-Apple Fandroid crap is annoyingly embarassing.
