iPhone 5S could come in different colours at last

Colour us interested: the next iPhone could finally sport a coloured casing. Could a colourful iPhone 5S join the likes of the Nokia Lumia 920 in brightening up the mobile phone world?

Business Insider reports an industry watcher's predictions that the next generation of iPhone will be available in six or even eight colours. If true, it'll be the first time the iPhone shows off any colour other than black and white.

Other predictions include a better battery -- as opposed to a larger battery -- and a beefed-up high-definition camera and screen.

Word on the street is that the next iPhone will arrive in June -- earlier than the last couple of models, which arrived just before the holidays. Apple may be attempting to avoid the annual dip in sales as potential customers hold off buying because they're waiting for the new phone, an unfortunate byproduct of the attention pointed in Apple's direction.

The iPhone has always come in any colour as long as it's black -- or white, if you're lucky -- kicking off a monochrome few years in the mobile phone world. But colour has been mixing back in, culminating in the varied palette of the multi-hued Nokia Lumia line, led by the Nokia Lumia 920. The newly announced Nokia Lumia 620 even comes with translucent cases to create different colour effects.

Apple recently adopted colour with the new iPod touch, which comes in a range of shades. Previously only smaller iPods such as the iPod nano and iPod mini came in different hues.

Would you buy a colourful iPhone? What do you want to see in Apple's next phone? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

A new screen and camera is really interesting to me and some new colours will defiantly be welcome but I do see problems reselling an iPhone if you got it in an unpopular colour (Pink for example) I can also imagine on opening day "Hello can I buy 1 iPhone" "I am sorry sir we only have pink left" "Crud".

You mean the same way fandroids cream themselves every time Samsung re-release the S3 with a slightly different colour.

gone are the days when we could just remove the whole case of our phone and replace it with whatever the hell we wanted (and could find on ebay!).

There was even the nokia phone with the clear case so you could use a template and cut out any old picture to fit inside your phone case

I'd really like to see better internet data saving features on a new iPhone or Galaxy S4 or the next Nexus. The technology and software already exist, but it's scattered throughout different apps and OS's, if someone brings it all together and has it at the heart if their new phone, whether Samsung or Apple, I would move to that phone. And the way a phone looks, the colour doesnt bother me.

Apple have totally lost it.

Its ALL about money now - iOS6 is a turd, iPhone5 was as dull a phone as the 4S, iPad4 was a "upgrade" just to sap more money from pockets.

Tim Cook is all about the money not the user. Expect another stock fall.

How can apple lovers be called sheep when android sells more? Hilarious really as sheep follow the trends. More choice is always good. I love IOS 6, rarely use maps so I didn't cry like some people. I bet IOS 7 will be amazing since they fired those that held it back a bit.

Um, can't you just add a case to the current ones? I've also seen colored backs on ebay for the 4S line that you can swap out. Totally innovating.

Apple copies the competition. The iSheep must be lapping this up!

"Awesome! We can get the same phone from th last three years in another color!!! Totally cutting edge!!"

Think crapple need to change the complete phone instead of coming out with new colours, but saying that its probably the most innovation crapple has ever come out with, who wants to start betting they patent it as their own invention, coloured phones....

Apple already have the range of colours on the similar 5th generation iPod Touch.
As colour options apparently appeal to the Yoof and female audience, they may be offering those same colours on the iP5 or iP5S in future.

What's wrong with that?
Nokia and others are offering colour choices again.
Samsung are increasing the range of colours on the Galaxy S3 (5 colours) and S3 LTE (3 colours).

to anonymous 11 December, 2012 17:50,
you really did think that question through too well, did you? Android is on a lot more phones because it's used by more than just one company on more than just one phone model (you know, for when you want to have a CHOICE)

How original! I guess Apple started to run of iDeas and now it's getting its new marketing schemes from Nokia, no?

Criticising a company you dislike based purely off of unconfirmed rumours and speculation is the sign of a true idiot. Congratulations folks.
