The next version of Apple's mobile operating system could launch next week, according to a report, and will fix the bugs found in iOS 6.1.1.
German blog iFun cites checks with different mobile networks as evidence iOS 6.1.2 will touch down before Wednesday. That might not be concrete proof, but 9to5Mac says the same site nailed the launch of iOS 6.1.1 using info from these sources. The PS4, HTC One, and iOS 6.1.2 all in the same two days? I can think of worse weeks.
The next version of Apple's mobile OS promises to fix a couple of flaws found in 6.1.1. Namely the fact that iOS devices won't sync with Microsoft Exchange servers, as well as the fact anyone can bypass the iPhone's passcode with a few simple steps, letting them use the phone and listen to your voicemails. Apple has said it's aware of both and is working on a fix.
iOS 6.1.1 launched this week to fix the bugs in 6.1 (which is only a couple of weeks old). Here in the UK, Vodafone warned customers using an iPhone 4S not to upgrade to 6.1, due to 3G performance issues. It later went ahead and gave it the green light to 6.1.1. But not all was fixed, as this upgrade proves. Many complained that 6.1.1 drained the battery on their iPhone 4S much faster than previous versions. Seriously, it's like whack-a-mole, fixing these bugs.
Our very own Richard Trenholm opined on the matter at this time last year, lamenting how nowadays phones seem to be sold in an unfinished state. So what if it doesn't work? There's an update coming that'll sort all that out. I'd feel more than a little annoyed if I downloaded the latest update only to find it screwed my phone's battery life. I thought updates were supposed to improve performance, not hinder it.
What's your experience been of iOS 6.1.1? Did it fix any flaws? Or make things worse? Let me know in the comments, or on Facebook.

Not surprised - iOS6 has been terrible.
sonce i put it on my iPad 3 I have had nothing but problems. The new App stores (inc Books etc) are rubbish. they are slower and stutter. No way near the same UI as in iOS5.
WiFi has become worse since 6.1.1 - I never has issues until then.
It feels less slick to use my iPad too now. -
On apple forums theres other people not happy about it either. Jobs is being missed every day.

6.1.1 completely drilled my battery. 80% to 10% in a few hours on standby. Went to the apple store thinking it was the battery - had it replaced £55 - to find out it might be software issue - annoying!

@anonymous..
Yep same, ipad 3 battery has been going down faster in 6.1.1 than ever before. Even in standby.
anonymous 17 February, 2013 22:23
im at 83 percent battery running two hours fifteen minutes
standby three hours fifteen minutes..
running ios 6.1.1... really seeing no flaws..
oh yeah i4s

The moment I downloaded 6.1.1 my battery life went to hell. Waiting for Apple to release 6.1.2. Hopefully it doesn't cause other problems, but knowing the track record I would not be surprised if it does.

Ya 6.1 screwed my battery life on my 4s. Then 6.1.1 screwed it worse. If 6.1.2 doesn't fix it I'm shopping for a different unit. No fruit next time.(no Apples!)

iphone 4s standby 7 hours lost 16% battery... not seeing problems

I have an iPhone 4S on the virgin mobile network and I updated to 6.1.1 and now I get the message can't activate cellular data when trying to connect to Internet
anonymous 18 February, 2013 09:33
cant activate cellular data is the settings in "mobile data" page in "settings".
IOS resets non standard setting during upgrade. I and many others have to manual re input the mobile and MMS APN settings.

I would guess that the pressure to get products out in to the market and shareholder impatience has a lot to do with poor testing before launch. Organisations become slaves to profitability and the "You are only as good as your last quarter" mind set means the consumer has to wait for a fully functional operating system every time! There will always be a degree of bug fixing with any mass produced software but this last upgrade beggars belief! www.uberphunk.com

The only reason I prefer iphone to all the other high-end phones is that I trust its stability in any terms . But after iOS 6 and especially 6.1.1, I really started to think about going with another device and I will probably do it as soon as S3 or other competitors stop exaggerating by disregarding the fact that the human being is their target user. Apple continues losing its credits...shake yourself and remember for what purpose you are in our lives and that you do not need be like the others because we love Apple simply as it is with its unique software and hardware design, no more or no less...

We have two NEW iPhone 4s' in the house. Mine and my husband's. His was updated to 6.1.1 and immediately started running hot. I decided to google the update before updating mine from 6.1 to 6.1.1 and I opted to wait after reading all of the complaints and seeing first hand that his has continued to be noticeably warmer than mine. Now that his phone has been running 6.1.1 for 3 days we can also see that YES, without a doubt, it is draining his battery at a MUCH faster rate than mine. To be sure that it wasn't an app he had that I did not have installed eating up all his battery or causing the phone to run hotter we reset his phone and installed exactly what I have installed and we ran through all of the notifications, setting, push settings etc to set them all on the same settings. Both issues have persisted!! When we unplug both fully charged phones at the same time his battery was down to 35% after 6 hours while mine was at 71%!!! This is just crazy!! Because we have brand new phones with the exact same apps and settings I can tell you, without a doubt, people are not imagining this issue!

Worked IT removed email due server issues and killing my battery on 5.0. Week of carrying around laptop hasn't been fun - when does the new blackberry come out - March?
anonymous 19 February, 2013 01:22
I use to have the same issue with my 4s after I upgraded to 6.0.1. Now, after I upgraded to 6.1.1, my phone is doing much better as far as battery life. The key was I removed Gmail email and iCloud email too. The only email I have left is yahoo. I fully charged my phone yesterday at 3 P.M. and I didn’t have to plug it till today at around 6 P.M. That is a big difference.

I am using iPhone 4s and the updates are killing me. First 6.1 killed my network and battery. Then 6.1.1 allow better network (stilly see abnormal behavior from time to time) but the battery is seems to be getting worst. I am constantly charging my phone now; tested that one full charge only last for half day ~ did another test over a night (8 hrs approximately): fully charge, no apps running, no WiFi, no bluetooth, purely 3G network, idle state; and it used 15% of battery!
I really missed the good old days where IOS is good and stable; that's the reason I choose the product. We buy product to use and to enjoy ~ not to buy and spending time to patch it!

I've got a 4S, had problems with battery and network and updated to 6.1.1 My battery problems are worse. Did restore as a new phone, still having problems. But as others have noted, upgrading to this supposed 6.1.2 update is a russian roulette. I'm seriously considering getting used to my current battery state and just wait for my contract to end. I've been an iphone user since the first came out and I seriously feel sad for what has currently become of this company. I hope this is not a marketing scheme to make us upgrade to their new phones.

My 4s battery life is slghitly better above 50% or so, below 50% i do get faster drain. I am measuring it considering duration of use, i always get it off charge just before heading to office, as i reach half full after 4-5 hrs, it starts to drop very fast. Maximum duration is 7 hrs then it is below 10%.
Signal, i cannot really judge as my office area is quite isolated. But my ipad2 is way much better in signal strength. Exchange is still working.
I applied JB just to install Auto3G just to disable 3G on lock down. It helps a lot, believe me.

Fool was I installing 6.1.1 on my iPhone 4S. Battery is burning insanely fast and suffered overheating warnings yesterday. Just started on a two week road trip and a little bit annoyed!!
anonymous 19 February, 2013 20:41
I've very much enjoyed a Motorola HX550 (streams audio or use for phone). iOS 6 and iPhone 5 do not play well with it. Possibly worst when both phone and wifi are turned on - incoming calls disconnect after 30-90 seconds for no apparent reason. Anyway, problems seemed to have died down but arose worse than ever after 6.1.1 update on an iPhone 5. I am going to give up and buy some model of bluetooth headset that they sell in an Apple store - hopefully it will be less buggy.

I just upgraded to 6.1.2 and my batters is HORRIBLE now. I've been at work for 47 minutes and i've lost 18% of battery. Someone needs to inform apple of what 'fix' means.
