Huawei Ascend G300 out on Friday 13th with Vodafone

The cheap Huawei Ascend G300 smart phone comes out in the UK on Friday 13th of April (unlucky for some?), exclusively available on Vodafone for the first three months. Click through the piccies above to ogle it from every angle.

Those looking to acquire a budget Android phone should keep an eye on this 4-inch mobile, which can be acquired for the modest sum of £100 on pay as you go (when you buy a minimum £10 top-up).

If you're a fan of tying yourself into punishingly long contracts, you can get the G300 for free when you agree to fork over £15.50 per month for 24 months (£372 in total) -- a plan that nets you 100 minutes, 500 texts and 250MB of data. That's not much data, so you'd need to watch how much you're downloading.

I've been really impressed by some of the budget Android phones popping up recently, with mobiles such as the Orange San Francisco 2 and ZTE Skate proving you don't need to spend five hundred quid to get a decent, app-laden touchscreen device.

Huawei has some form in this area, too. Last year's cheap-as-chips Huawei Blaze wasn't too shoddy, and the upcoming Huawei Ascend D Quad is a four-core monster that could be capable of taking on telephonic titans like the HTC One X.

My colleague Andrew has been hands-on with the G300, praising the slick design and bright screen. It's got a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and will arrive running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, though Vodafone swears an update to Ice Cream Sandwich will be out later this summer.

We'll have a full review very shortly -- don't throw down your cash until you've read our definitive verdict. In the meantime though, feel free to chuck your own first impressions in the comments below, or over on our Facebook wall.
