The HTC Sensation will usher in the third version of the company's Sense user interface, which will sit on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Sense is one of the few customised versions of Android that we like as much as the pure, untouched version of the operating system, seen on phones such as the Google Nexus S. HTC's skin is bold, colourful and glossy, giving Android a more playful appearance.
Sense also adds some handy features to Android, such as the ability to see your contacts' Facebook and Twitter updates right from your address book. Several of these features will receive an update in Sense 3.0. For example, the email inbox will add a two-line preview of each message.
Thanks to the Sensation's powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, HTC has been able to ramp up Sense's graphics, too. Sense 3.0 adds new transitions when you swipe between home screens, for example, so the screens appear to rotate around a carousel.

Any idea if the new sense 3.0 will be combined with the 2.3 update for Desire HD (when/if it happens)?

It has a Qualcom processor not nvidia's tegra 2

@Anonymous2 - thanks for pointing that out, we've fixed it in the story.

there shouldn't be any reason for HTC to not include this 3.0 for other devices previously out like the Desire range for example as it seems most of the 'features' shown are already present in other Launchers found on the market..
Transitions such as carousel have been present in LauncherPro, Go Launcher, ADW Launcher EX and even the newly release SPB Shell 3D (although thats still not 100% perfect yet, alot of bugs with it)
Other things such as facebook and twitter updates etc can be found with other contact apps as well, same goes with the mail box update...
So if HTC are only putting this on 'new' dual core high performance phones then this is a real kick in the teeth to some of us slightly older device users.
I mean im running an original Desire and everything described above I can already do with aforementioned above launchers and apps.
Though saying that, I hope HTC have cleaned Sense up a little as it always was a little laggy compared to say using a seperate Launcher UI.

Licked the screen, tasted like gingerbread, very happy.

Nope - it's not officially backwards compatible.
No biggie though - someone from xda will be along shortly to hand HTC their asses on a plate.

@trick202
yea I just found that out too...but still, sense sucks anyway....I mean most people who have rooted and ROM'ed their original Desires (like myself) will not care bout the official HTC 2.3 update with or without a new sense....cos it will still have the internal memory issues..
so either will be asop roms for others and launchers for the rest lol....hell I havent seen 'sense' on my phone in months...running LauncerPro...with funky transitions...running widget locker with custom theme....so all the 'extras' from new sense are covered mostly..
