The HTC Pyramid is set to ditch its Egyptian moniker in favour of a name that's more startling. The new Android 2.3 Gingerbread smart phone is expected to be unveiled next Tuesday with the name HTC Sensation, at a media event in London.
Pocket Lint has the story, although it's unclear from its source whether the Pyramid name will be used elsewhere in the world. It's expected to go on sale here in Blighty in the next few months. "It WILL be coming to the UK, though I can't say to which network," says the source. "It will be launched in the UK as the HTC Sensation."
The report backs up previous rumours of a 4.3-inch screen, dual-core processor and Android 2.3 software for the new device, which was speculated about before Mobile World Congress this year, but wasn't announced at the show alongside HTC's other new Android handsets.
We first wrote about the Pyramid (sorry, Sensation -- we'll try to remember that now) in early February, when it was tipped for a May launch, with a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor inside.
In mid-March, pics leaked on a Chinese website, with the rumour that the device was also packing an 8-megapixel camera and 768MB of RAM, while running the Android 3.0 Honeycomb software. We didn't believe that last bit, obviously: Honeycomb is just for tablets at the current time.
More spy shots -- including one of its menu -- broke cover in late March, confirming the device would run Android Gingerbread 2.3.2, with version 3.0 of HTC's Sense UI sitting on top. That story also confirmed the 768MB of RAM and 1.2GHz dual-core processor, but also seemingly showed that the Sensation had a 'qHD' resolution screen: 960x540 pixels. Which is nice. It's also expected to have a front camera for video calls.
There's no news on when the HTC Sensation might go on sale, although the earliest speculation suggested May as the likely launch date. That's what we expect to find out on Tuesday.

If this T-Mobile **** won't get it to contract, I will buy a Nokia to get their share up!

"I will buy a Nokia"
That's a bit drastic to do such an idiotic thing...

They are making the advert for the phone at the moment, I can't say much for obvious reasons but I was under the impression that it will be called the SHOOTER and film in 3D as previously thought in rumours.

@Anonymous
Why don't you just buy it SIM free, then sign up for a £10 a month contract with your provider?
