We've been hearing snippets of rumours that a souped-up version of HTC's flagship phone, the One X, was on its way and it looks like it might be here sooner than expected, having appeared in O2's marketing.
A brochure entry -- spotted by GSM Arena -- shows an apparently identical phone to the existing One X, which isn't much of a surprise. It looks to offer the same 4.7-inch screen with three touch-sensitive buttons along the bottom for navigating around the Android interface.
That software will apparently be 4.1 Jelly Bean. The standard One X is still waiting on an update from the older 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, so it's great to see the latest version on board as standard rather than vague promises of a future update.
The picture indicates that the one X+ will pack a quad-core processor -- presumably the same Nvidia Tegra 3 chip found in the standard model -- with a turbo boost to 1.7GHz. That's only a slight increase over the 1.5GHz on the regular One X, but it should help you tweet those awful Instagram snaps quicker than ever.
It will apparently have 64GB of storage, which is a considerable amount. That's going to come in particularly handy, as the One X didn't offer expandable storage and it's unlikely this model will either. It also packs Beats Audio, which is no surprise, so expect the red Beats branding around the back.
Camera-wise, things don't appear to have changed much, with the One X+ bringing an 8-megapixel sensor to the table. Again, that's the same as the regular One X, which performed adequately in my extensive tests against the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5, but it wasn't a match for Apple's snapper. We'll have to wait and see whether HTC has made any improvements over the existing camera this time around.
The listing puts the phone at £480 on pay as you go, which is about what I'd expect, and pay-monthly deals will surely be announced soon.
There's no word on exactly when this latest iteration will be available, but with this listing turning up and leaked spy shots of the handset appearing on Twitter, we evidently don't have long to wait.
What do you think of the One X+? Does it tempt you more than a Galaxy S3 or an iPhone 5? Let me know in the comments below or over on our Facebook page.

IPhone 5.... What's that?! ;-)

The HTC One X wasn't given a fair chance because everyone was waiting for the S3, and it turned out the S3 and One X were very similar. 64GB is a lot but I hope HTC come to their senses and include an SD slot and 4G, in their new phone.

Stop with this SD card issue. We're in 2012,not in 2001. Just let it go.Cloud is the future.and box has 50gb free storage . everyone ditched it but cr*psung because they are outdated.

You're right - cloud storage is the 'future', but it's not the 'now'. I may be in the minority, but I like to listen to my music and watch HD films on my device when out and about and flying or on the train.
When I have a rock solid fast signal and affordable unlimited data plan then I might consider cloud storage, but for now I need reliable, instant access storage.
Like I say that might just be me.

I don't see chrome books take off anonymous so the cloud storage isn't that great still! I have 50 gig on drop box which I hardly ever use frankly because of its.... hmmm 2001 write and read speeds.

HTC really need to get their ideas bucked up! Every phone they produce is outdated within 4 months! What does that say to their customers when they produce a flagship phone only to change that within 6 months? I will not be using HTC again! their phones are just not 'special' for long enough!

Sounds like a great phone!! And I agree, it needs an SD slot, but cloud storage is clearly the future because of 4G. The original One X is still a great phone and should become a bargain, and I'm hoping to get it, next month.

I wonder how this will stack up against the S3 i'm due an upgrade in December..awaiting reviews

Cloud storage is useless when you don't have a proper signal in certain places. I too want the security of local storage so that I can listen to my music whenever I want. But 64gb internal storage would do me just fine on this. It is the non removable battery that will stop me from going for this otherwise, fantastic phone. Galaxy S3 it will have to be instead.

You have said something very important there. This is my main gripe with HTC.. The level of support you get after buying one of their products is poor as you are likely to wait a long time for a software update in Android. Also their flagship phones don't last as you can expect a new phone right around the corner. Well below the average yearly turnover for smart phones. My Nexus is almost a year old and it truly does still feel like a new phone. Especially after the Jelly Bean update. Also I'm sure to get Key Lime Pie soon when the next Nexus hit's the shelves within the next few months. So my phone will feel brand new again.

thank you who said this(it was me before had forgotten to log in!)
They don't have ana ttractive brand at all anymore! They have so many different products to update to Jelly Bean that they cannot keep up, and they just do not make the user feel special anymore! Their flagship phones like the Desire, they didn't even bother updating!
My next phone will be a(hopefully) new Samsung Nexus device. I want day 1 updates and we are now at the stage where hardware developments just dont make much difference anymore!
It's about brand and software and how the company makes the user feel valued! Releasing 3 flagships to compete with one Galaxy S3 is deffo not the way to do it!

Yes, I've defected now!! Android is clearly a better system, iOS is just so beta and, I've come to my senses!! Im an Android fan boy now!!!
anonymous 28 September, 2012 19:13
With dropbox, google drive, and skydrive I have around 90gb of storage including the on board memory. I like my One X. No mePhone here thanks. Android all the way....
anonymous 28 September, 2012 23:00
The comments about cloud storage are right, it's pretty well useless on phones at a time when providers seem to be cutting back our data allowances and 3G coverage is not 100%.

I like the original design of the one x and i actually wanted htc to keep the same design but i don't prefer the tegra 3 processor. I thought the + version was going to be eqipped with the quad core s4 processor, due to Lte releasing soon in UK, the dual core was Lte capable, unlike tegra 3. Also i wanted to see the performance of the adreno 320 gpu, that if it is as good as we heard, but since news is coming out that its the tegra 3 cpu and not the s4 pro, ill pass and keep my money in my pocket for now and wait for a future proof device, if rumors of the HTC 5 inch phablet are true or even of the oppo 5 with AMAZING specs, im gonna jump on boat with these devices...

What's the point of cloud storage when most mobile networks suffer from congestion AND virtually all have low (>1GB) download limits? Doesn't matter if you have a 50GB dropbox if you can only use 1/50 of that in a month...
