HTC One X and One S owners could be in line for an early Christmas present, as the Taiwanese manufacturer has told CNET UK that its high-end smart phones will be updated to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean within the next few months.
HTC says the One X and One S will receive the anticipated update between mid-October and December. That's not the most precise schedule we've ever heard, but it's good to know the update is en route.
The 4G-capable HTC One XL will also get updated in the same time period, with the new software winging its way to smart phones in the wake of the newly announced HTC One X+ hitting shop shelves.
Unfortunately it looks like Samsung will beat HTC to the punch this time -- the Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update has already kicked off in some parts of Europe, according to reports.
There's currently no word regarding a Jelly Bean update for the smaller HTC One V. HTC may decide to leave this more wallet-friendly option running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich -- we noticed it was occasionally sluggish to use, so it might be that its hardware isn't up to running the refreshed operating system.
I've been hands-on with Jelly Bean on an HTC phone, and while the new features are buried beneath the company's Sense Android skin, you'll appreciate new apps such as Google Now.
HTC doesn't have a great track record when it comes to updates, and back in July cancelled the Ice Cream Sandwich update for its popular Desire HD smart phone. I'll be looking to see how close to that mid-October date HTC can get Jelly Bean out to its new crop of mobiles.
Are you excited about Jelly Bean? Are you a One X fan, or do you prefer Samsung's high-tech blowers? Tell me in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

Great news, although Im just getting use to ICS. I brought my One X a few days ago, and love it, but battery life is just awful and all I've been doing is browsing and playing Teeter. Does anyone know if HTC have offered a battery fix update, and I've received today an update to Android 4.0.4 and HTC Sense 4.1. Also, I hope Jelly Bean offers better data management and data compressors, I've used so much 3G data because my IPS, TalkTalk is being stupid.

"and back in July cancelled the Ice Cream Sandwich update for its popular Desire HD smart phone"
It looks as though they have quietly done the same with the updates for the Desire S and Incredible, as there is no sign of ICS for either of them.
And as for the update for the One X & S for 'mid-October and December' read 'end of December if you’re extremely lucky'
This update business for Android continues to be one of its biggest weaknesses. At this rate we'll have the next major version of the OS (key lime pie or whatever) before even ICS is the most numerous version.
Current figures I believe put ICS on around 23% of devices (even though it's now very nearly a year old) and jellybean at less than 2%, it seems we're still very much in the Gingerbread age.

YESSS!! I have One X and I really can't wait for Jelly Bean - Google Now looks incredible. I'm looking forward to Voice Assistant as from the videos I have seen, it looks better than Siri - much faster! The cards that give you live information look great too! I can't wait!!
