Five is a big number right now -- hard on the heels of the iPhone 5, we hear the giant HTC One X 5 could arrive as the Google Nexus 5.
The 5-inch HTC blower will sport a giant screen and it's a high-definition 1080p resolution job to boot. At that size, it's a rival to the Samsung Galaxy Note and the upcoming Note 2, whether it's released as the HTC One X 5, Droid Incredible X -- in the US -- or, as GSM Arena suggests, the Google Nexus 5.
Under the 5-inch screen is a rumoured Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 64GB of storage and a 12-megapixel main camera with a 2-megapixel video-calling camera on the front. Its also likely to offer 4G.
Like all Nexus devices, the Nexus 5 will pack the most up-to-date version of Google's Android software. In this case, that's set to be Jelly Bean 4.1.2.
The next Nexus will follow the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and Google Nexus 7, the flagship devices for the latest updates to Android. Usually there's only one Nexus device at a time spearheading the Android line-up, but reports suggest that's about to change.
Word on the street is that Google plans as many as five Nexus tablets and phones -- but only Samsung, Sony and LG have been rumoured so far. If HTC does get the Nexus nod, it could be a return to form for High Tech Computers, which did so much to establish Android at the start but has slipped in popularity behind Samsung.
There's no word yet on when the 5-inch HTC One X 5 will arrive or what form it'll take. In the meantime, check out our 25 Nexus tips and tell me your thoughts on an oversized HTC Nexus in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Too big for a phone and too small for a Note competitor.

Are they only releasing 1 nexus device? I hope samsung with their rumoured boosted dual core processor and new GPU will be releasing one too.
I can't see them using their one nexus slot on a 5inch. If they do they better make it an edge to edge display/bezel.
The Note 2 also has a much bigger battery on a much more energy efficient screen (although a bit larger...)

If they fit those specs + 2 gigs of ram + a 2100 battery on the existing one x, htc will come to the party with much more game.
The lg optimus g has that and more but htc is way more reliable & the build quality of the one series is excellent.
I've always wondered why htc releases their flagships with inferior specs when they clearly have the tech to make superior instruments. ( missing sd card slot on the one x)
Thanks to the lack of innovation on the iPhone 5 & the s3 feeling like a piece of cheap plastic, this Is htc's big shot at taking the market.
But for some reason I'm sure they'll continue to hold back specs & lose market share.

I am not a fan of HTCs hardware. I hated the old steel bricks like the Desire HD and I am not too keen on the One series. I would much rather have a Samsung built phone.
I must say though the specs sound promising although a 5.5 inch sceen would be nice.

I have an HTC One X. The device is excellent, great display, fast and does all a smartphone should. However it is too small to be an effective tablet and too big to be an easy to carry and use smartphone. There is no middle ground where a smartphone can be a tablet as well. I would much prefer to have a proper tablet (Galaxy Note perhaps) and a simple smartphone (my old Desire S or even less). Perhaps we will get to the stage where the phone is merely an attachment to a Tablet dock...

Could be a serious competitor to the iPod Touch depending on pricing. Games on Goggle Play are starting to catch up with the offerings on iTunes, a five inch screen would be an improvement for watching videos and playing games, and a five inch device would be much easier to carry around than a seven inch device.

Assuming it would have virtual keys as part of the screen, it'd pretty much be the same size as a One X or SIII, but with extra space for watching videos. I'd definitely consider this for my next phone, hope this turns out to be true.
