HTC Evo 3D dropped by Vodafone to avoid clashing with other phones

The HTC Evo 3D has vanished from Vodafone's 'coming soon' page, with a Vodafone spokesman confirming to us the network will be dropping the 3D smart phone from its line up.

Vodafone told us the the reason is because of a delay to the phone's launch, which means the Evo 3D would be "coming out at the same time as other exciting handsets".

Other upcoming mobiles might include Nokia's Windows Phone 7 effort and the iPhone 5, and Vodafone presumably doesn't think the Evo 3D has enough clout to make bringing it out worthwhile.

In a separate statement, Vodafone said, "We realise this will come as a disappointment to some people, but we already offer some fantastic phones, like the HTC Sensation and Galaxy S2, with some really exciting handsets in the pipeline and we'll continue to focus on bringing the latest and greatest smart phones to Vodafone customers."

Sensation? Galaxy S2? Those phones have been out for weeks. They may as well never have existed.

Unfortunately, it looks as though this could be it in terms of getting the Evo 3D on contract. We've spoken to the other UK networks, but none has stated it's planning on taking up the 3D-touting smart phone.

You can still pre-order the Evo 3D SIM-free online -- Amazon reckons it'll be available on 12 September. The £500 price tag will make you wince, but it looks as if that might be the only way to get some Evo 3D goodness.

Vodafone will be notifying customers who registered their interest in the device shortly. In the meantime, let us know -- were you psyched about the Evo 3D? Or are three-dimensioned mobiles a silly gimmick? Let us know in the comments section below, or on our Facebook page.

I'm a little bit gutted to say the least. I had my eye on this phone for a while now and thought that by the time my contract renewed in October, it would be available as an upgrade at a good deal. But if no networks are taking it on for contract then I guess I might have to look at either the Sensation, Galaxy or sticking with Nokia and go for the E7.

Regardless of whether the carriers offer the handset directly, most handsets are offered by subsidiary firms, such as buymobilephones.net and the like. I had the same problem with the HTC Desire when that was brand new to the UK, and only these firms were able to offer it. You also tend to find that they offer better deals than the networks directly too! Just a thought :)
I haven't lost hope just yet anyway, my contract's up for renewal in October too, so here's hoping they've sorted it all out by then.
Either way, the £500 sim-free price tag is too much for me personally. Especially when you have to fork out for a priceplan of some sort anyway. Vodafones' loss :P

I'm fuming, spoke to vodafone they told me late august early september now I read this, I've been due for an upgrade since mid july and only reason I haven't upgraded yet is because I was going to wait for this phone. Really don't know if I should wait till September to see what comes out.

The LG OPTIMUS 3D is out and does the whole 3D thing much better than the EVO3D, there is a lack of content on the EVO 3D and frankly the HTC Sensation is a better overall phone with first rate camera and video recording, the 3D picture and video on the EVO 3d is not as good as LG, but then LG are pioneers in the area of 3D. My boyfriend who is studying in the US has returned his EVO 3d and is waiting for the LG optimus 3D (LG Thrill in the US)) to launch stateside because he found the evo 3d very laggy and and the 3D effect was just not good as LG's.

@Vershy that makes absolutely no sense. The sensation is a better phone? it's the same phone except the sensation doesn't have 3D and is a little slower.

Hahaha the evo 3d is miles ahead of lg O3D. I just returned the O3D. For all of you guy waiting for the evo 3d. HTC are releasing updates frequently for it making it better each time, the battery life now supercedes the SGS2 and sensation, which is what you would hope from a 1730mah battery.

I had the evo on t-mobile on a 18 month contract at £30.64 delivered on Friday? It's brilliant the smoothness the picture quality would definitely recommend.
