Android 4.2.2 has arrived, but has it stopped your phone from randomly restarting? The latest version of Android Jelly Bean software is now available for the Google Nexus 4 and Galaxy Nexus smart phones, as well as the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets, but we're still having problems.
The new software landed on the Nexus devices last week. It was supposed to fix the problem with the previous version, 4.2.1, rebooting your phone without warning. Many users seem happy that the problem is now solved, although it does seem there are still occasional crashes -- are you one of them, or is your phone still playing up?
Our Nexus 4 is still having freakouts -- this very morning it threw its toys out of the pram yet again with an unexpected restart.
Often early adopters rush in where angels fear to tread, but fortunately 4.2.2 seems to be doing the job for most. Jelly Bean 4.2.2 mostly adds a number of bug fixes, most notably the random restart issue. It also offers up small tweaks like being able to long press on the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth icons in your settings menu to quickly switch them on and off.
You can download the factory image direct from Google, if you haven't already been prompted to get it over-the-air straight to your phone. When the latest Jelly Bean software will reach other non-Nexus phones depends on the phone.
Have you downloaded 4.2.2? Are you experiencing problems? And are you a keen early adopter or have you learned the hard way to wait a bit before updating your device? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

No problems on my Nexus 10 so far.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 09:46
My tablet has never randomly restarted. What it struggles with and always has is if I turn it off I cannot turn it back on, nor can I charge it, I have to soft restart it. Once the battery ran out which was terrifying, as I couldn't charge it nor switch it on. Took me three goes at soft restarting it to finally get it to a point that it was taking charge and could stay turned it. It did this with 4.1 and 4.1.2 but only now and then, with 4.2 it did it every time but once. I also get a tremendous amount of battery drain when I switch the tablet off. So far with 4.2.2 I've tried switching it off and it did turn on again with no problem, but I need to give it a few more weeks before deciding if it's fixed. Truth is that I never turn it off anymore.
As for the Nexus 4 having problems with random reboots, that's a big worry for me. I have a SGS 1 and have had enough with its constant crashes and random reboots (especially it's latest trick of crashing in the middle of the night so my alarm doesn't sound). So if the Nexus 4 is the same then I'll have to reconsider if I should buy one today or not.
That said, I've a year left on my contract and won't be able to get better for less than £300.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 09:58
Didn't have any problem with my N4 to begin with.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 09:58
Never have reboot problem before or after upgrading to 4.2.2. So nothing need to be fixed.
Chris Dillmiester 18 February, 2013 10:07
This is news to me, not had any crashes or restarts with my Nexus 4 on any version.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 10:09
Update: Just tried switching my N7 on and off, success. That's two times out of two that it has worked, as opposed to probably 2 out of 10 with 4.2. Needs more time but looking good.
Guys, a favour. As I'm normally out 7:30am - 5 or 6pm Monday to Friday but have a week off now I need to order the N4 today so I can be in to collect it this week. As I'm replacing my SGS 1 because of random reboot issues every couple of days for 13 months now, as well as crashes every 1-2 days which has now seriously compromised the functionality of my phone (the alarm not going off 2ce in one week due to crashing when I have to be up at 6am is unacceptable and the straw that broke the camel's back, as well as my phone crashing when I took it out and tried to unlock it to take a photo whilst on holiday - In fact, I never use the camera, and use my other half's SGS3 to check maps and websites when we're out together as the lag on my phone is unbelievable) - I digress - Since the issue is crashing and reboots, I need to know that the N4 isn't going to continue these issues and I'll have spent £250 for the same problems.
So, could people please be so kind as to let me know if they have these problems, and how much they do? IMO it isn't a problem for a crash every now and then, maybe every 10 days at the most. But less than that and you begin to stop trusting your phone.
Thank you guys.
tbag 18 February, 2013 10:39
No probs with my N4 in the first play.
Annoyingly the Sky Go app does not work with 4.2.2 though, i cna't imagine why as the updae shouldnt have changed anything with regards to that app :-(
anonymous 18 February, 2013 10:49
I will tell you what the biggest freakout is.....Where is the 4G WiMax or better data service??? Really? 3G..really?
Meleagru 18 February, 2013 11:03
I'm not on stock Android so couldn't tell you about random reboots but CM seems plenty stable. I'm still trying to find a decent enough kernel. I really hope Google steals some stuff from custom ROMs for 5.0, there are just small comfort things, like clearing the active apps with one tap or being able to kill an unresponsive app by long pressing the back button.
Rich Trenholm 18 February, 2013 11:07
Good to hear so many of you are trouble-free! Check out Android user and developer forums to see where others have been having problems
anonymous 18 February, 2013 11:08
My Nexus 7 never rebooted with 4.2.1. 4.2.2 has improved touchscreen performance. My Nexus now follows hyperlinks better when I touch them. I am very happy with my Nexus 7 purchase.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 11:29
Trouble is that people can exaggerate the problems they have, or that people with an issue are the loudest ones on the internet. Take my N7, I've had very, very few problems with mine, and the problem I've had I've never seen mentioned on here other than by myself (the issue with powering back up after shutting it down as mentioned above).
If you look hard enough you can find anyone saying anything about any device.
Much as I love tablets and smartphones one thing they are not is reliable and consistent. And no, Apple are not any better than Android.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 11:49
Having just put a ton of stuff on my N7, I just wish Google would somehow improve the process of updating i.e I dont want all my stuff deleted.
I dont want to root it just yet.....
anonymous 18 February, 2013 12:04
Cannot find any updates on my N4, even though it is only 4.2.1... but also never had any reboot problems, the only issue I had once was that I had to turn off wifi and turn it back on, because it couldn't connect to wifi otherwise, and it drained the battery quite heavily while trying to connect unsuccessfully.
jopov123 18 February, 2013 12:10
I'm still trying to find out why on earth my Nexus 7 (after upgrade) says "good daüghyyer" (correct spelling) on the welcome screen. It also says "charging - good daüghyyer" on charge. It's driving me nuts as it's NOT any app installed as I have factory reset 4 times now. It's also not a message from a sim as it's a wi-fi only model. No-one else seems to have this problem as I've scoured the web. I could just ignore the words but of course they are now imprinted on my brain and annoy the hell out of me!
anonymous 18 February, 2013 12:17
Jopov, sounds like you need to change the language settings or maybe region settings, or both.
Updates don't seem to roll out all at once, I don't really get it, but if you're still waiting you'll get the update soon. I tend to get mine within a day of reading about it being released in the UK but others get theirs sooner (judging by what I read online anyway).
shauney3 18 February, 2013 12:50
No probs on my Nexus 4 in the first place. 4.2.2 broke skyGo though =( wouldn't recommend upgrading if you use Sky's app. Sky take a little while to update their support ;-)
anonymous 18 February, 2013 12:55
Hi guys, have been running 4.2.2 on my Nexus 7 with no problems apart from noticing the swipe gesture on stock android keyboard is not functioning properly as before (auto spacing not working) in Chrome address /search bar. Could have sworn was working fine before update?

Jelly Bean 4.2.2 has fixed several issues, including battery, freezing, and rebooting on my Nexus 7.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 13:15
I have never had problems of rebooting with my nexus 4 before or after upgrading to 4.2.2
anonymous 18 February, 2013 13:22
I am glad to hear that 4.2.2 dealz with bluetooth issues because I have just ordered a color matching bluetooth keyboard from Amazon.com that will also i hope work with my Android cell phone
anonymous 18 February, 2013 13:37
I got my N4 about a week ago from the play store and I have yet to see a non-solicited reboot. Seems that with 4.2.2 I have noticeably better battery life, though, so no reason for "throwing toys out of prams" here...
jopov123 18 February, 2013 13:43
(anonymous 18 February, 2013 12:17) Thank you very much for your reply but I have changed settings over and over to no avail still my friends think it's funny. They are calling my tablet Kryton as it seems to have a mind of it's own.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 13:48
My Nexus 4 has never rebooted, but 4.2.2 greatly improves the battery life. There was an kernal issue with wakelocks (Andoid OS use to use 40% of my battery). Looks like they've fixed it. Battery now last 24 hour with heavy use.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 13:49
jopov123...I suggest you do a Factory Default wipe of your device and start again.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 14:05
jopov...try installing the latest clock widget from the app store if that is possible. That my repair your problem.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 14:16
Considering the N7 has a 5 core processor running at 1.3 GHz and a brilliant HD display, I think the battery life is exceptional. I have my display set to timeout after 1 minute and I only use it when processing. The LCD and the Nvidia CPU eat up the lions share of the battery.
jopov123 18 February, 2013 14:23
Thanks for all the help everyone but as I said in my original post, I've factory rebooted four times now, changed all the settings and still the daft words. Even Asus don't know why, unless it's a gremlin from their factory floor.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 15:00
My N4 also had a random reboot this morning in NY. I received the OTA update last Friday and so far the weekend has been good until this morning. Although my random reboots have not been nearly as severe as some others I have read online it was neither very consistent really either. I could sometime go a week or more with no issues, and sometimes twice in one day. I am hoping that this update will fix this but I'm not very optimistic it will after this morning. My reboots have also been accompanied with other issues as well that I have not read about online. Would love to hear if others are experiencing reboots that change the wallpaper back to factory default, and reboots that are actually shutdowns subsequently followed by difficulties with turning the N4 back on.
midfieldgeneral 18 February, 2013 15:29
Here we go again. Updated my nexus 4 to 4.2.2, sky go can't cope with .1 increment and stops working. Strangely enough, sky go didn't freak out when I updated my iPod touch to iOS 6.1. Do you think sky might have an apple bias by any chance?
Well, thanks a lot sky. Now I can't update my nexus 7 and until you get this sorted, which if past experience is anything to go by will be about 6 months, just in time to do it all over again with key lime pie.
weirdstuff 18 February, 2013 15:34
'anonymous 18 February, 2013 09:58
Didn't have any problem with my N4 to begin with.'
Amen to that. Nope, me neither. I was slightly caught out when I found I had to root my phone again, I suppose I may have to do this each time?
anonymous 18 February, 2013 15:55
I have also never had a random reboot on either my 4 or 7. I think it must have to do with what apps are installed.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 16:30
I've been running custom ROMs since January. No problems at all. Better than stock, just as stable.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 16:55
i have only ever had one issue with my N4 (wasn't sorted by the update), which is when i come to hang up the phone or enter numbers on the screen it dosn't always come out of it lock mode (that stops us pressing buttons when the phone is on our ears).
has anyone else had this issue?
anonymous 18 February, 2013 16:55
I'm finding after the update 4.2.2 that my Nexus 7 battery is draining a lot faster than it was? the battery life was very good before the update. Does anybody else agree?
anonymous 18 February, 2013 17:01
Wonder if the reboots are related to CPU throttling too low during down time, causing problems much like on the g2x...
anonymous 18 February, 2013 17:16
I've never had a problem with random restarts on either my N7 or my N4. However, neither of them have been stock. I usually root/ROM/OC/UV all my devices as soon as I get them. If you are one of the ones getting random reboots, try running a custom ROM. I've had AOKP on my N4 since about an hour after I got it and it's never unexpectedly rebooted on me.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 17:17
My nexus 4 never rebooted on its own I haven't had any problems with it all luckily.
jopov123 18 February, 2013 17:32
FOUND IT.... the expression "good daüghyyer" which had appeared on home screen after update was under the Security - Owner Info - section. Deleted from there and all fine again. If anyone else has this problem at least I've found the solution.
Stelios Pitsillides 18 February, 2013 17:46
No. 5-6 reboots a day. In the process of removing unnecessary 3rd party apps and will possibly to a factory reset. (on 4.2.2, in case it wasn't clear).
anonymous 18 February, 2013 19:25
Surely that many reboots indicates a faulty handset.
Anyway, further update on my N7 and the switching on problem/charging when powered off. No difference. Couldn't turn it back on, couldn't charge it.
I'm fact this is the first charge with 4.2.2 and it's hopeless. Charging about 5% am hour.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 19:44
Not had any issues on my N4 on 4.2.1 at all. N7 was restarting regularly and had some stuttering. So far so good on the N7 since the update. Just awaiting the prompt for N4!
anonymous 18 February, 2013 20:15
My N4 stopped displaying notifications for a corporate linked email, even after changing settings several times over. In even more interesting news, my digital clock widget seems to want to display a different time than the system time in the notification bar. Oye, wish I would have ignored the 4.2.2 update notification. Not worth the hassle. Zero issues with 4.2.1.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 20:26
Had no probs with my galaxy nexus phone, the only difference the update made was to stop skygo from working. Am getting the usual incompetent customer service from sky, I don't expect it to be fixed till near summer. AND sky want me to pay £5 for SGE, they must think I'm barking mad!
anonymous 18 February, 2013 21:05
@ anonymous
"I will tell you what the biggest freakout is.....Where is the 4G WiMax or better data service??? Really? 3G..really?"
The Nexus 4 3G uses HSPA+, & is faster than "4G" bases on WiMax.
Chris Cole 18 February, 2013 21:19
I've never had any problems with my Nexus 4 rebooting since I got it.
andydandy 18 February, 2013 21:29
Never had a problem with my Nexus 7. A trouble free experience. I would buy a Nexus 4 if they were in stock. Also just changed to Windows 8 one of our home PCs.. You want pain? Just try that upgrade. My wife is furious and I am desperately trying to get it to work.
anonymous 18 February, 2013 22:05
Who care for this Nexus branding.. It's just an HTC or LG phone branded for Google. What with the Nexus hype??
anonymous 18 February, 2013 22:10
anonymous 18 February, 2013 22:05
You have much to learn if your asking that question.

@ anonymous 18 February, 2013 22:10
Agreed.
Installed 4.2.2 a few hours ago, no problems.
midfieldgeneral 18 February, 2013 22:45
Hmm, don't know what the hype could possibly be about. Except for the fact that they're (relatively) dirt cheap and you get your updates when they're released rather than in 6 months time (if you're lucky)
anonymous 18 February, 2013 22:47
My nexus 4 never restarted before, since updating to 4.2.2 a few days ago, it's randomly rebooted 3 times....
anonymous 19 February, 2013 01:11
My Nexus 4 freezes and reboots itself every time the display times out. With a 2 minute screen timeout, that means tens of times per hour. I have had it down to completely factory OS with both 4.2.1 and 4.2.2--no apps whatsoever.
anonymous 19 February, 2013 03:44
- Superb boost in battery life, it’s just doubled.
- I was having the reboot issue, never after the update.
- But no fixes around camera. Autofocus still freezes, flash is always with red eye.
anonymous 19 February, 2013 08:39
I have problems with my SIM-card.
I have to enter my PIN several times a day.

Me too, there must be a big bug in 4.2.2

My nexus4 still on 4.2.1 never had the rebooting issue....
tgw123 19 February, 2013 14:11
Is this problem related to the ongoing problems users of the new Sony Xperia V (released in December, 2012) are having with random freezing of the phone and hot batteries I wonder? It does sound like a similar sort of problem.
Then again, I think I am right in saying that the Xperia V was originally going to be released with Android OS, v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but in the end release was delayed and it came to market with v4.1.2 (Jelly Bean) onboard.
How confusing is it that Android have now released 4.2 and are still calling that Jelly Bean?!
Either way the owner around the world of the Xperia V continue to have problems and instead of replying to its customers Sony just keep plugging the new upcoming Xperia 'Z' (will the Z suffer the same problems as the V?) and has failed to reply to owners of the V on its own website! Is this a Sony issue or a Google/Android issue, or both? Either way Sony's customer service is at best terribel and at worst completely non-existant! You can read about the problems with the Xperia V here (all 22 pages):

Max Goodman 19 February, 2013 15:03
I've had the Nexus 7 just under a month. One spontaneous reboot thus far but that could have been an app - a couple have a tendency to "stop responding" although they start up again as good as ever.
Overall still thrilled with the thing do date.
anonymous 19 February, 2013 16:43
No problem with battery life on my N7 but this update has messed something b yo with charging. In four hours I got it to charge 10%. Normally four with some usage would have it fully charged.
I've overlooked a couple of problems with this tablet, namely the fact that if I switch it off I have to soft reboot it to get it to turn on, and if I do turn it off it drains the battery somehow, bit I can't overlook this.
anonymous 19 February, 2013 17:47
My N4 is working great... I never experienced reboots before the update to 4.2.2 either... It so far has not disappointed... especially since it only cost me $350 Ddn
anonymous 19 February, 2013 19:12
am i doing something wrong... i havent gotten an update at all for my N4. i am in jamaica tho...which is outside of the play store's ambit.
is that why?
anonymous 19 February, 2013 21:51
Just updated via the UK vodafone ota update on my stock galaxy nexus, so far it's no faster than 4.2.1 and it keeps telling me files that have been downloaded months ago have completed. My notification bar is repeatedly full of "download arrows". Not great.
anonymous 19 February, 2013 23:23
I've never had any issues with my phone, except one: battery life. But then again, I mostly leave the wifi on, and and use the 3G cell network.
Perhaps it's because I've kept the practice of manually restarting the phone after every charge cycle. I believe it's a good practice. Never trust an OS to behave normally without rebooting every once in a while. :)
anonymous 20 February, 2013 01:11
My nexus 4 running 4.2 seems to get hot very easily just browsing the phone for about 10mins, now im browsing it for 20mins its not that hot anymore like before.
delubyo 20 February, 2013 01:39
Good day to all.. I have a battery issue regarding my lg n4 the other problem is here in our country the upgrade to version 4.2.2 wasn't still available yet.I don't know how to upgrade it OTA, i need some help, thanks in advance.. ;)
anonymous 20 February, 2013 01:58
My problem is a bad power connector. Google won't help, refers me to Asus. They were not much help, either. No software will help this...
anonymous 20 February, 2013 02:19
does this update erase phone data and factory reset?
anonymous 20 February, 2013 03:32
Random reboots gone on Nexus 10, and my gnex never had such issues. WIFI connection problems gone on both N10 and gnex. But now my gnex screen will occasionally fail to time out and lock on its own. Overall a pretty decent update.
sporeman001 20 February, 2013 10:09
Never had random rebooting prob with my nexus4 4.2.1 but 2 very annoying ones 1. Bluetooth keeps disconnecting and connecting every 3-4 mins and won't download contacts to my car system 2. Mobile data connection similarly unstable ie keep dropping off and back on again. APN settings checked out ok although vodafone dont seem to have one that works with nexus4 so using talkmobile apn. Anyone with similar problem? And if so, has 4.2.2 fixed these problems?
anonymous 20 February, 2013 10:44
One factory reset later and the charging is still unbelievable, roughly 3% per hour. I left it turned off over night (and amazingly it turned on again without a soft reset) and it seems to be up to about 5% an hour. Either way, this is crazy. I was set to buy an N4 this week, but these problems have seriously put me off. £250 is still a lot of money, so the last thing I want to do is replace one dodgy phone with another.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 11:32
No issues with my nexus 4 running 4.2.1. No random reboot, no screeching audio or yellowish patch on screen.
The 4.2.2 update is even more awesome and battery life has improved tremendously. Extremely poor battery on 4.2.1 was traced to one app "Speakme" that prevented the phone from going into deep sleep. Uninstalling doubled my battery life and updating to 4.2.2 further improved it. The Samsung S2 was my previous phone and nowhere near the nexus 4. Extremely satisfied with the Nexus 4.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 12:07
Still no update for me (also still no problems though ;) ).
What is a "soft reset" that people keep talking about?
anonymous 20 February, 2013 12:17
I haven't had any problems on my nexus 7 but my husband's nexus 4 has started randomly turning off AFTER installing 4.2.2. He only had the phone for about a week before installing the update but has no problems during that week. For the last few days it has turned off a few times a day. Google's suggestion is to do a factory reset.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 12:52
Excuse me, I said no before or after 4.2.2, but it's yes. I hadn't noticed but yesterday my nexus 4 had unexpected restarts
anonymous 20 February, 2013 15:56
HTC One on JellyBean calendar useless as it will not store more than 30 days of entries. What use is this to any businessman. I do not know of anyone who only works in 30 day tranches!!
Come on Google get this anomaly fixed and soon!!
anonymous 20 February, 2013 17:51
Have 3 Nexus phones and one N7 and no issues with either any of them... ever. Of course doom and gloom gets people to read more. It's like movie reviews, the crowd knows the deal while the "professional critics" seem clueless and will give 5 stars for movies that show things like a 20 minute close up of a floating flower petal with no sound. Anyways the Nexus 4 is a great phone.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 17:56
To the guy who's blaming Google for his HTC One's calendar issue on jelly bean, that's HTCs fault not Google's. This is why you buy a non skinned phone. They work. Next time buy a Nexus.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 20:22
I received the 4.2.2 update yesterday. It has fixed the problem I had with the WiFi connection dropping out as I move around the house.
I would have to reconnect several times a day - now it's rock solid.
anonymous 20 February, 2013 20:59
I never had my n4 randomly restart on its own. Not with any of 4.2, 4.2.1 or 4.2.2
This might be an issue with a particular batch I suspect.

anonymous 21 February, 2013 10:59
Got update last night. No problems so far.
anonymous 21 February, 2013 13:05
I own and use a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and had little to no performance issues _before_ the 4.2.2 update (except for some very rare glitches with BT, but those are also still there now).
Since I updated my phone, everything from starting the launcher to opening a website in chrome seems to take between twice and thrice as long and the Android Keyboard regularly becomes completely unresponsive while typing and then tries to catch up with every input it received during that time at once...
Neill75 21 February, 2013 16:30
Updated this morning on my N4, now noticing scrolling through websites is jerky and new parts of a webpage don't appear as quick as before. Haven't noticed anything else yet. Not particularly happy. Wish I hadn't opened Pandora's box.
anonymous 22 February, 2013 05:18
Add me to the list of happy Nexus 4, and 10 users who have never experienced this reboot issue :-) I must say that these are by far the two best devices I've owned, and I'm really liking the Android experience!
I tend to agree with the fact that people sometimes exaggerate the issues that they are having. We've all been guilty of this at some point in or lives :-) I'm also starting to see a trend, with many CNET editors. It just seems as of late they continually try to force us into seeing all the faults with Android (see the 10th post in this thread); but fail to promote all the great things about it. As a result, a tend to take these type of posts with a grain of salt.
Is it just me, or do others feel this way as well?

Since updating my nexus 7 to 4.2.2 Google now has lost voice command and menu item under Google now settings>voice >hotword no longer exists. Also stock android keyboard gestures (swype) no longer working properly and not auto spacing in chrome address/search bar. Frustrating
anonymous 22 February, 2013 16:49
Since the update came down to me I find that everytime I put my N4 on top of my wallet, or a credit card, it beeps and beeps and beeps... odd???
anonymous 23 February, 2013 04:55
Never had a reboot issue before or after the update. N4 is an amazing phone. With the new update the battery life improved significantly and the display color seemed to improve a bit. It tends to be little less warmer tone than before. The swype gesture removes the auto space when typing on the chrome address bar, however it adds the auto space after a word in the body or when composing emails or SMS. In my opinion, this makes sense as we do not need a space while typing web addresses.
One thing that I have notice is that the auto brightness level is not stable. Meaning in the same light condition the ambient sensor send signal to either lit up the screen or dim the screen a bit. I find this bit confusing as the lighting in the room is still the same but the display brightness is changing every few minutes all by itself. This problem was there even with 4.2.1. Has any one noticed the same with their N4?

Love my N4. Never had the reboot problem with 4.2.1 but since update (Thurday 21st for me) had 5 reboots in a day, just random even if not using it it will just turn it's self off. Have installed no new apps since upgrade.
anonymous 24 February, 2013 11:55

the1beard 25 February, 2013 07:39
Complete garbage I've returned my N4 pile of junk.
And bought a Lumia 820 which is a revalation long battery life every app I'll ever need and not a hint of unstable flakey crashing I never thought I'd say that about a MS product but WP8 is just brilliant robust and fast! Lumia 820 920 IMO Recommended !
anonymous 25 February, 2013 08:05
No fix here, and that's already on a replacement phone (we had the same issues with a Nexus 4 that we sent back to factory...). Before the update to 4.2.2, I was getting random power-offs (no reboot) + instant drainage of battery by 10-15% after the phone was switched on again. After update to 4.2.2, the random power off (+battery drainage) ocurred twice. Few minutes ago, I also had a reboot (that's a first), which was also associated with a drainage of the battery.
The other Nexus 4 phone we have in the family, works without a single glitch and its fantastic.
So, in essence: Nexus 4 is an excellent phone, if you are lucky. So far, who gets random power offs or shut-downs is equally random, and its annoying that is so far unclear whether this is a software or a hardware issue.
anonymous 26 February, 2013 05:47
I have updated my nexus 4 to android 4.2.2 through OTA. If i reset my device to factory settings will it have 4.2.2 or do i have to update again?
delubyo 26 February, 2013 07:38

anonymous 26 February, 2013 23:13
On 4.2.1 I had no problems except slight sluggish browser scrolling. On 4.2.2 I've now got battery drain (maps app apparently, even though it hasn't been used since last restart), loss of WiFi signal, loss of 3g and even phone signal that requires restart to get back, 1 random reboot when phone was just sitting on my desk and problems charging from car charger. All together it's not been good for me.
anonymous 27 February, 2013 10:31
Since the update my Nexus 7 sometimes fails to connect to any wifi after a period of sleep. I have to power off and restart when it will reconnect automatically.
anonymous 27 February, 2013 15:21
After upgrading Nexus 7 to Android 4.2.2, the tablet seems to be controlling itself. If a book is open, then the page displayed will increase font, decrease font, then pages will be turned back and forth. It is difficult to take control back from the device using the touchscreen when the tablet is controlling itself. In minecraft, the POV character moves on its own without touching the screen. When the upgrade was downloading/installing, the GUI/touchscreen moved randomly with audible clicks and didn't allow the user (me) to control the touchscreen via touch. After the first reboot after 4.2.2 was installed, the touch screen was not responsive. A second reboot seemed to allow some touch responsiveness. But the above "tablet controlling itself" problems are still occurring.
anonymous 28 February, 2013 08:02
My N4 still reboots. Not so often after the update but at least 1 per day i still see de X logo.
I am planning on returnig this device.
anonymous 28 February, 2013 14:48
My Nexus is perfect with NO PROBLEMS!!!! I decided to research these updates first and with all the many problems I stayed with 4.1.2.
anonymous 28 February, 2013 20:23
No problems with my nexus 4 phone my last htc was a nightmare the desire yes i know years old but that switched off all the time when making calls this phone is fantastic
anonymous 1 March, 2013 09:06
After update to JB 4.2.2 I've realized that Barrett life is quite shorter than it was before.
anonymous 1 March, 2013 11:59
Hey anyone noticed problem with volume level. I tried VoIP apps like vibe, oovoo n also during normal call if I put my phone on speaker mode the volume is too low . also when I connect my Bluetooth handsfree speaker , the call gets disconnected. Am I the only one having this issue or others too. Btw I have a nexus 4 with 4.2.1 still n waiting to touch to install 4.2.2 :)
anonymous 1 March, 2013 13:02
My nexus 4 now drops every call if the call is longer than 10 mins or so.
Piece of junk would be a accurate discription.
anonymous 1 March, 2013 17:18
All Nexus devices to my knowledge have had reboot issues...
My Nexus S does this several times per day when on charge. I don't believe this is necessarily a software issue, but a hardware+software issue to do with power management that chip quality and build quality increases could remedy.
anonymous 1 March, 2013 17:45
as a sixty-three year old who thought dimmer switches were hitech I've found no probs at all with my Nexus 7. The update came in the other night, accepted it though hadn't had any problems before that. Use it a lot the only issue is sometimes if I'm feeling tired the soft start button seems to need a very firm digit to get the thing going plus for a speed maniac like me a 40sec boot up is a bit of a pain.
In the past people have complained about card reading and expansion but for a couple of quid you can get a usb female and plug in whatever you want so still best product for me.
anonymous 2 March, 2013 06:18
Never had any issue with my N4 on 4.2.1. Since the upgrade to 4.2.2. I noticed the following:
- frequent Battery icon stuck on charging with a certain percentage even with charger disconnected. Only way to temporary fix it is to completely switch off and restart the phone.
- clock keep changing of format and position on lock screen while switching on and off.
Did a couple of factory reset but issues remain.
the1beard 3 March, 2013 09:56
Nexus 4 no good I've returned mine.
& bought a Lumia 820 which is a revalation long battery life every app I'll ever need and not a hint of unstable flakey crashing I never thought I'd say that about a MS product but WP8 is just brilliant robust and fast! Lumia 820 920 IMO Recommended !

Perfect from Day 1.
anonymous 5 March, 2013 04:38
i purchase google Nexus 4 from google play store UK. my mobile restart all the time like minimum 20 times a day starting from 1st day i use. while using simple application also it hang and it reboot suddenly. i already factory restore 2 times and now without installing any apps to see how it will work but random reboot is still continuing. I'm wondering whether it is a hardware issue or software issue. in "about phone" it shows android 4.2.2. can anyone please tell me, is this a hardware problem or software. is there anyway i can fix it by myself without calming for replacement with the dealer.
anonymous 5 March, 2013 18:38
I'd love a Lumia.
But it doesn't have Google Now.
anonymous 5 March, 2013 19:22
No problems with my Nexus 5 so far it works great.
anonymous 7 March, 2013 17:44
I have no problems with my Nexus 4. I didn't have restart issues with 4.1 either though. Might have had some luck with my hardware batch though.
redmozzy 8 March, 2013 18:04
I'm a bit confused by this story because, like others that have commented, I've never had any issues with my Nexus 4 crashing or restarting. I've upgraded to 4.2.2 and still have no problems ;-)
anonymous 8 March, 2013 19:56
My Nexus 7 was working fine before the 4.4.2 update. Now I can't switch Bluetooth on. If I slide the setting to the on position it immediately jumps back to the off position. It is extremely annoying as I can't use either my Bluetooth keyboard or my Bluetooth headphones.
Anyone know if the next update is due and will it fix this issue?
anonymous 14 March, 2013 20:55
I was the one posting about battery charge and reboot problems on my N7.
Both seem to be fixed now so, yeah, 4.2.2 after a rocky start has my tablet running as wonderfully as it did with 4.1.2.
Now, if they could do a software update that would give me 3G and stop the creaking on the left hand side of the screen it would be perfect!
anonymous 15 March, 2013 07:14
With 4.2.2 dozens of 3g microcuts . sometimes browsing is almost imposible. Notifications arrive quite late (when you pull the Phone out of deepsleeping....if you are lucky). Hundreds of users affected un Spain. No problems with mymy old Nexus S at the same locations.
anonymous 15 March, 2013 14:58
Why hasnt the upgrade automatically come to my nexus 7???
bijko 19 March, 2013 21:17
New N 7 just upgraded to 4.2.2 and since then I m having spontaneous restarts - about one every 20 mins. And does not switch off.
Before this I had had no problems.
anonymous 27 March, 2013 20:15
Got 4.2.2 on my gnex last week seems the same, random reboots 2-3 times a week. Especially when watching video or listening to music. Same as 4.0, never had 4.1 thanks to Verizons SLOW updates.
anonymous 29 March, 2013 20:34
"The new software 4.2.2 landed on the Nexus devices last week. It was supposed to fix the problem with the previous version, 4.2.1, rebooting your phone without warning"
No this has not fixed my problem. I have new Nexus 4 with 4.2.2 installed and my phone keeps shutting down without warning. I only notice it when I go to use it.
anonymous 30 March, 2013 00:03
wifi issues with my nexus 4, from the second day.....
It just can connect,,,
anonymous 8 April, 2013 14:52
I recently bought the nexus 4 and I am having trouble with the Wi-Fi since day 1! I try to connect through my home broadband which is security protected but all it keeps saying is 'authentication problem'. I have no idea what to do and I can't use the phone at all. The wifi works perfectly phone on my old Samsung phone but not this one. Please help
anonymous 30 April, 2013 13:37
I've never had any issues with my Nexus 4, until the 4.2.2 update. Now I can't keep my phone on. It's always powering off, even when it's fully charged. It started about 4 days ago and haven't been able to use my phone since.
Turning the Wireless off seams to help, but it turns back on by itself. Then the phone powers off...
anonymous 1 May, 2013 21:02
I have the new 4.2.2 version and I still get the rebooting problem or sometimes it just turns off completely without warning. Very annoying as you miss calls, sms etc. You don't notice it's off until you go to turn the screen on and it doesn't come on. Then you have to turn phone back on.
I've also tried a factory reset and that made no difference either.
How do you go about contacting Google and sending the phone back?
anonymous 3 May, 2013 01:21
WiFi tediously slow yet my nexus 7 isn't as bad. Browser seems OK but Google play is waste of time.
anonymous 12 May, 2013 09:20
i have recently bought 2 N4s both running jelly bean 4.2.2.. they can both connect to my wifi but only one has internet access. all the other phones i connect with have internet access, even my olg galaxy gio.
if anyone knows of a fix please tell. It is really irritating me now!
Please help!!
anonymous 17 May, 2013 03:06
With 4.2.2 my phone is randomply dropping internet access.
Note, the connection remains active, there is just no ability to communicate data.
This includes both WIFI and Carrier Data.
anonymous 18 May, 2013 17:35
My nexus has started crashing when I make a call and no one answers the screen goes blank and can get it back unless I reboot it is OK if they answer any ideas
