Google Nexus 7 hits your doormat this week, 16GB next week

Google has finally confirmed when you can expect your Google Nexus 7. If you've ordered the 7GB model you'll have it in your hands by the weekend, but if you're awaiting a 16GB model you'll have to be patient.

The Nexus 7 was unveiled in San Francisco last month and went on sale immediately, but actual delivery dates were kept vague. Retailers promised 19 July, a date that 7GB customers may meet if you're very lucky, as Google has upgraded all buyers to next-day delivery.

Google promises the 7GB model will be delivered by 20 July, with 16GB models following some time next week.

Google informs those who have already placed their order with an email reading, "We wanted to send you an update on your Nexus 7 pre-order. We’ve had incredible demand for the new tablet and are shipping them as quickly as possible. All Nexus 7 8GB orders will ship by July 20, and Nexus 7 16GB orders will ship by next week. We’ve upgraded your shipping to overnight so your your order will arrive sooner.

"Thanks for your patience. Your Nexus 7 will be on its way soon."

That's the first confirmation Google has offered about dates, which is a far cry from what we expect when we buy something online. Heck, the other day I bought one of those little wind-up dogs that does a backflip from an online retailer and I've had three emails telling me when to expect it.

Still, at least Google has upgraded all deliveries to next-day shipping to help get the new tablet into your hands faster. Some lucky punters managed to bag a Nexus 7 early after some retailers jumped the gun last week, and other shops have got their tablets out sooner than Google. The confusion over delivery seems to me to be a sign of the big G's inexperience at selling hardware, but it's not the sort of things you'd expect from a company the size of Google.

Look out for our full review of the Nexus 7 coming any moment. In the meantime, check out our first video, and look out for our full review of the Nexus 7 coming any moment.

so not only are the not making a real profit at all on the tablet (barely on the 16gb as well) they upgraded ALL orders....that must of cost a fortune for Google..

I wonder what their strategy is here...I'm not knocking them here, I mean thats great customer service!

Is it an 8GB one you've misprinted it as a 7GB (funny memory size)?

@Dean Shepherd they will not loose on shipping in fact they may gain. Shipping the numbers they have will bring a typical consignment down to £1. I think they're using TNT and I'm not sure they have a 2-day service when I last inquired. This mornings upgrade email was to appease us PLAY things.

Bs on upgrading shipping they originally told me 2 day shipping and although they shipped my tablet on the 16th it says it won't be delivered until the 23rd. I'm not great at math but that's far from 2 days

I pre-ordered a 16GB Nexus 7 from Google Play on 28th June. It was dispatched yesterday and TNT tracking indicates it's just a few miles away. Should arrive today.

@DeanShepherd - it's not great customer service....

Many people ordered over 3 weeks ago (I ordered on the 27th - still not heard anything yet). Shipping time, at that point, was 2-3 weeks. It's now over 3 weeks and the product is openly available elsewhere.

Upgrading shipping from "2 days on a 2-3 week order" to "1 day on a maybe this week, maybe next week" order isn't great customer service.

It's hopeless customer service following a hopeless retail experience.

If you pre-order, you should get your device on (or ideally just before) the wider launch date. It's now clear that the planned launch date that the likes of PC World, Currys, Tesco etc in the UK had was the 19th (so just over 3 weeks from the announcement). Given that, it's reasonable to expect that EVERY pre-order should be shipped by that date. If they've run out of stock then say so and stop people pre-ordering (or adjust the date for new pre-orders).

Certainly, you shouldn't have a situation where customers order an hour after a major product announcement then here nothing from you until you've failed to deliver and the product has been shipped through channel partners to other customers who didn't pre-order.

Got my nexus 7 tablet 2 days ago. So far; one crash for no reason, kindle app won't find content on my kindle account, dropbox stops unexpectedly so can`t sync files, 2 files downloaded to `downloads` folder but neither will open. Good quality product in that it is a very well built but software issues render the the performance woeful. Not impressed so far. Lot of work required to get this up to speed for simple operating functionality. If your thinking of buying this item then I suggest you keep your hand in your pocket until jese issues are resolved.
