For those about to dock, we salute you. The long-awaited dock for the Google Nexus 7 is finally about to sail into shops, costing £25.
The dock packs a micro-USB port and 3.5mm audio-out to plug in speakers and start pumping out your choons.
The tablet sits at an angle, placed sideways in landscape orientation so you can watch movies, TV and videos or consult a recipe or webpage while juicing up the battery.
To charge your Nexus 7, you only need to drop the tablet roughly into place. It uses pogo-pins to charge, meaning there's no need to connect any cables or even really dock the tablet properly.
Considering it's a bit of plastic with two sockets in, it's a mystery why the dock has taken so long to arrive -- we first reported on it back in August. The Nexus 7 and its little brother the Nexus 4 smart phone have seen delays too: the Nexus 4 has been sold out almost continually since an hour after going on sale, while the £160 16GB Nexus 7 is currently sold out too.
At the moment, the only accessories for the Nexus 7 are basic coloured covers and a spare charger, but we're expecting a posh cover at some stage.
The Nexus dock is expected in the next fortnight. In the meantime, check out our incredibly super-handy 25 Nexus 7 tips or press play to see what we thought of the excellent Google tablet.

Totally pointless without an HDMI out :/

Agre with the above poster. I have a crappy sumvision 7 inch tablet. The screen is cracked and it gets horribly slow if you put to many apps on it. However, I keep it because it has a mini HDMI socket which allows me to watch iplayer, Youtube and netflix etc. without forking out masses of cash for a smart TV or Youview etc. No HDMI on the N7 is a real downer. I love mine anyway. lol

I need this because my micro usb port is so jankie

Saying it's pointless w/out HDMI is just ignorant. the NEXUS 7 doesn't do HDMI out, there is no MHL chip inside it. It allows you to charge the thing without wanking on the fragile micro USB port. Besides, it's a dock, if you were going to pump Hdmi out , why would you need HDMI? *Sigh*, use your head Beavis.

s/why would you need HDMI/why would you need a dock/
see what you did ? :)

The dock also allows you to use the nexus 7 as a nice little bedside clock. If you want to watch films on your tv with your nexus then get a half decent tv and plug it in via usb, or just buy a usb stick and put films on it.
If you wana play the films or music from play store then look up the nexus Q. The dock is designed to be simple And allow you to charge the device and prop it up easily which It does well.

Everything about the Nexus 7 is crappy.
I was so pleased with it but it's turning into a pile of sh*t.
I wish I'd bought the Samsung tab 2 now.

I am extremely happy with my Nexus 7 (but then I dont have what to compare it with as didn't have any tablet before).
But I am trying to avoid any extra stuff for it. They only thing that's obviously necessary is a case and that's where I'm struggling. Anyone's got some idea where to get one?? Not a leather black one though please!
Thanks for advice!

Well I personally love my tablet, found no problems at all.. As for you saying you want a samsung tab 2 they are less powerful then a nexus so if you don't like the nexus you certainly wont like the galaxy tab 2.. And for the guy asking for a case look on amazon thats where I got mine, its kinda like the smart cover for ipads and only £12 :-)

Really hope the poster on January 12th meant yanking.
I want a dock, but the £30 delivered price tag seems a bit much.
