T-Mobile has confirmed it has finally started rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S2 owners.
T-Mo is the last UK operator to make ICS available for download to Galaxy S2 handsets locked to its network.
"We've been working closely with Samsung on this, and we can confirm that we will be rolling out the ICS update for Samsung Galaxy S2 from 22 April," T-Mobile told me in a statement.
A few CNET readers appear to have been able to download the update a little earlier than Sunday. Kumar Velayutham posted a comment on 20 April: "I am a T-Mobile customer and I got my ICS update today :)"
Another S2 owner, Fergus Smith, contacted me via Twitter on 21 April to say, "Something big is now downloading onto my T-Mobile GS2. Shame it took 6 months."
Three was the first UK operator make ICS available to S2 users on its network on 20 March, followed by O2 on 27 March.
Vodafone was due to be next, with a release date of 12 April but the update was slightly delayed -- landing at some point over the following weekend, and officially confirmed to CNET on the 17th.
The 17th was also the date when SIM-free S2 owners were finally able to get their hands on ICS, about a month after they were originally told by Samsung to expect it (from 19 March).
The S2 ICS update saga has been the opposite of plain sailing -- with false starts and poor communication frustrating S2 owners who've been super-keen to get their hands on the latest iteration of Google's Android OS.
S2 owners who had shelled out for a SIM-free Galaxy S2 to avoid being locked to any network -- and often in the hopes of being at the front of the Android update queue -- were the most vocally displeased with the process, judging by comments posted to this very website.
Their ire was not just a result of being left languishing near the very back of the update queue, but was made worse by initially being told by Samsung that the update would start to roll out on 19 March -- when in reality it took about a month longer to hit their handsets. SIM-free S2 owners were also roundly unimpressed by Samsung's communications during this period.
Are you a UK S2 owner who's still waiting for ICS? Let us know what mobile network you're on by posting a reader comment or updating our Facebook page, and check out what you're missing in my video.

Yep its out but after soo long can't be bothered. Alsp found out that SKY apps do not work with ICS
anonymous 23 April, 2012 12:50
i also have the GT-I9100P on Orange......apparently the letter 'P' is used to determine the NFC chipped version of the S2.which is the newer version of the S2........here is a comment made by a member of Orange helpers on Facebook earlier today........." the ICS update for the NFC version of the Galaxy S II is currently still in testing, we are hoping this will be released in the next few weeks ^ Amy ".............So anyone with an NFC chipped S2 has a further wait for ICS.
anonymous 23 April, 2012 13:11
I checked this morning for my T-Mobile Galaxy S2 and Kies is telling me there's an update. However, as Sky Go doesn't work on it yet, I'm not going to upgrade until it works. Very disappointed by Samsung, T-Mobile and Sky, I have to say.

I got the ICS update for my sim-free Galaxy S2 (it came that way from virginmobile) FOTA on saturday. Was a bit puzzled as I understood that ICS would not be FOTA.
The only thing that I could think that would trigger it was that I put my vodafone payg chip in there the day before and downloaded the vodafone settings.
It didnt come down with any bloatware as far as I can make out, however it did set my browser home page to Vodaphone, which I immediately set back to google. Loving the ICS atm. :)

The ICS update just appeared 1 hour ago for my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. It appears to have installed ok.

After waiting for months for this update, a few days in and I really really wish I hadn't bothered!
It's a pile of rubbish!
Wifi barely ever turns on when hitting the button, just locks the button and the phone.
Blutooth rarely auto connects to my car stereo.
When the phone is locked it can sometimes take upto 2 seconds from pressing the button to the screen turning on (compared to

Downloading "over the air" now. All from the handset, no kies needed.
Home > settings > software update, and there it was.

Day 7: What do you think?
Just gonna root
anonymous 30 April, 2012 06:50
So, I received the long awaited ICS for on O2, and I've not been impressed. I literally have to be within a metre of my router in order to use wireless, and my 3g has stopped working altogether. The programs need to force close more often than I can ever remember with Gingerbread. I was so happy with the little gimmicks like face unlock, and the revisal of aesthetics, but I am not a happy customer considering I expected the update to be flawless by the offical release.
