Not to be outdone by Sony Ericsson's announcement of four new phones, Nokia has announced seven -- although since only four of them will be available in the UK, we're going to call it a draw.
The UK offerings include three sliders and one folding phone. First up in the sliding department is the 6280 (pictured right), a 3G phone with two cameras: a 2-megapixel model on the back, which can be operated in landscape mode with the phone held horizontally, and a VGA camera on the front, which is used for video calling. Other notable features include a dedicated camera button, a flash and a 240x320-pixel, 262K-colour screen.
The 6270 is a quad-band GSM phone with a similar, slider-type design. It only has one camera, a 2-megapixel model on the back, but it offers the same landscape mode and high-res colour screen. It has stereo speakers and plays MP3 and AAC music and MPEG-4 video.
The 6111 is a smaller, tri-band slider phone. It has a 1-megapixel camera and a 128x160-pixel, 262K colour screen. It also supports Push to Talk and Visual Radio -- both of which are still on the 'coming soon' list as far as the UK is concerned.
Finally, the 6060 is the one that's not like the others, because it's a dual-band clamshell phone. Aimed at the budget end of the market, its distinguishing features are a pulsing light that lets you check its status and an Expense Manager application. Keep track of those pennies and one day you'll have enough pounds for a more expensive phone.
The 6060 should be available in Q3, but you'll have to wait until Q4 for the others. -ML
