Crave Live at the UK iPhone 3G launch, epic fails ensue

3G iPhone

Astute GCSE English literature students will know that 11 July marks the 48th anniversary of the publication of Harper Lee's literary classic To Kill A Mockingbird. Almost 50 years later, it wasn't a mockingbird that was being killed, but the hopes and dreams of London-based Apple fanboys.

You see, today was the launch of the iPhone 3G. While this was supposed to be a happy event, a day of excitement, the climax of the early summer and the celebration of 3G chips everywhere, it was something of a let-down, on a par with kissing your girlfriend for the first time, only to find out she is your sister.

Crave had front-row seats for the iPhone 3G launch event in London's Regent Street, and after speaking to a queue of 200 Apple lovers -- including a bloke who bought his front-of-queue position on eBay, not to mention the guy he bought it from only a few places back -- we got to experience the disaster that was the Apple store's first opening hours in all their morbidly beautiful glory.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, but most of all you'll be glad we were there so you didn't have to be. -Nate Lanxon
