London calling: the specs of the BlackBerry Z10, previously known as the London, reveal the first BlackBerry 10 phone's high-definition screen and 4G data connection.
The Z10 and the keyboard-packing X10 will be the first to show off the new BackBerry 10 software in two weeks time.
British blog TechRadar has got its hands on a slideshow of training material from BlackBerry builder Research in Motion. The slides include the specs for the Z10, named here by its L-series codename.
We originally heard of the L series as the BlackBerry London, but it seems that's just one of the cities in question. There are set to be four versions of the Z10, with the London joined by a trio of 4G phones: the Liverpool, Laguna and Lisbon.
The Z10 sports a large 4.2-inch touchscreen with 1,280x768 high-definition resolution. That's a very tasty 355 pixels per inch, which is better than the iPhone 5, but not as good as the Sony Xperia Z. Inside there's 2GB of RAM, 16GB of memory for your music, movies, apps and snaps, and an 1,800mAh battery.
It packs NFC to talk to other phones, sending files, links and other information to another NFC-equipped phones by waving them near each other. RIM has also done a deal with Visa to allow BlackBerry phones to be tapped against shop tills to pay for stuff, but it remains to be seen whether that will come here to Britain.
BlackBerry 10 and the new phones will be officially unveiled on 30 January.
What do you think of the Z10? Can it give the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 a run for their money? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

BB 10 is good enough to take on the best phones in the world from a hardware perspective and will be the king of the Hill with its QNX based bb 10 operating software. The only question is whether or not they can convince people who love iphone and androids of this. I am a believer so I ordered one last week. The potential for QNX is huge.,

I can see CrApple and Spamdroid OEM's scared of RIM and new the BB range, it'll offer true innovation and not just an extra core or larger screen. I read a lot about RIM since yesterday and it's gonna start a revolution, replacing PC's and laptops!! My next phone is defo gonna be a BB :))

@Damien2501 It's Apple and Android. Learn to spell

Good luck to RIM. They sure need it. Maybe they can recover their former glory and bring some new blood to a very stale fight.

Mobile World Congress 2013 is 25 days after RIMs BB10 unveiling event. That's where the Androids and most of the innovative phones of 2013 will be unveiled.

It may be good enough to sell but not to surpass the giant companies as samsung and apple.

I wonder, what processor will be use.

The best innovation yet. Until HTC release their flagship at MWG and then Samsung to follow in May. The only people they're competing with is Nokia and Microsoft

The icons look like something from an old Palm PDA... After reading reviews from "almost-final" versions of BB10 I'm not at all impressed. It looks like Android, but worse. I'm sure it's much better than the old BB's (which were horrible!) and people who use BBM will appreciate the update. Apart from that I have no idea why you would go from Jelly Bean or even iOS to this...

blackberry is dead in the water. end of.

I can see this being RIM reinventing itself and re-establishing itself into the forefront on the market. Apple and Sony better sit up and take notice. This isn't a ditch effort by RIM to stay in the game. There have been so many rumors of RIM shutting down and dying out. Not so, apparently.
From what I've experienced from this phone so far, really is a "game changer". There is so much exciting about this phone that's it's going to be making a lot of Xphone users migrate over to BB for sheer phone power alone.
A big downfall for BB is that there are so many excellent apps out there that aren't available for BlackBerry. Now, the Z10 will have all the best apps readily available for it.
The camera features with the intuitive and interactive "time camera" are groundbreaking. I have never seen camera phones (or cameras PERIOD) with the ability that this has.
For the phone geek of today...This phone is REALLY cool!

all am wondering is where can I buy one. want to be the first in my area to have one
anonymous 21 January, 2013 08:33
From last I saw internationally BB has about 10% of the market (compared to about 3% for windows, and 30% from apple) I wouldn't say RIM is "dead".
As for the specs, it really is an amazing phone, and arguably the best on the market. Does that mean it will beat out Apple and Google? Nobody can say. Apple has spent years convincing people that pretty and expensive is better than high-tech or innovative. Blackberry will most definitely win in the BB fan crowd, but for everyone else it's all going to boil down to marketing.

What a BS mountain. I can clearly see BB fans. "Game changer" or "end of IOS and Androin era".I'm all for companies competing on highest level. This plays in favour of users.Look where android was just 5 years ago and now being leader in OS. And not just because they produce a lot of cheap smartphone but mainly they surpassed Apples IOS. Android 4.2 is so much better than IOS 6. I have been long term IOS user, but sorry guys they fell asleep and I have moved on. Coming back to BB, they best they could do is take back what they lost thru last year, They wont be game changers or leaders, not any time soon. Phones running Android are most technically advanced. All ne w phones will be running full HD screens and 4 or 8 core CPU's. Feel the difference.

This phone and BlackBerry do not need to and will not beat Apple or Google or Samsung. This company is playing a different game altogether. In short, security will trump the day and become a much larger issue for the average user. BlackBerry absolutely kills Android and beats Apple regarding security. This phone is not about where we are, but where we're going. Within five years our phone will also be our wallet and none of the competition can beat the security of BB. From everything I've read the response is highly positive and I can't wait to see one in action.
