BlackBerry Z10 in white at Phones 4U, comes with free tablet

What goes black white black white? No, not a penguin on a zebra crossing: it's the BlackBerry Z10 and its white version, only on sale at Phones 4U -- with a free tablet if you're quick.

The Z10 is available in black across the board, but Phones 4U is the only place you can get it in opalescent white at the time of writing. (Update: You can also buy it in white at Carphone Warehouse.) It launches today, and the first 300 people to buy will get a free BlackBerry PlayBook to boot! I shouldn't laugh.

The first 250 people to buy a Z10 online and the first 50 folks in the queue for a Z10 at Phones 4U on Oxford Street get a free 64GB PlayBook. Both phone and tablet are free as long as you commit to a monthly tariff of more than £36.

The PlayBook was a bit of a flop when it launched in 2011, mainly because it was missing crucial features like email and needed to connect to a BlackBerry phone to do anything. But perhaps the arrival of the new generation of BlackBerry will give the PlayBook a new lease of life -- and hey, you can't get cheaper than free.

The 4.2-inch dual-core Z10 is also available in black from Phones 4U, as well as from O2, EE, Vodafone, Three and Carphone Warehouse. On EE, the phone boasts super-fast Internet speeds thanks to the network's 4G technology.

Our colleagues at CNET.com have reviewed both the Z10 and BB10, and liked them, although the software does take some getting used to.

Is BlackBerry onto a winner with the Z10? Will you be picking it up in white, or sticking with Android or the iPhone? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

can't believe they have to bribe people with a free tablet to take one :-)

I own a BlackBerry Playbook and do not own a BlackBerry so know full well you do not need a BlackBerry to be able to use the PlayBook to a fantastic standard. Things like wanting to use BBM are the exception but if you don't have a BlackBerry phone it's not exactly going to be a huge priority of yours to have BBM convos (altho useful).

I get that you were being sarcastic but there may be potential PlayBook buyers who take that sentence literally. Anyway good luck to BB10 and I hope it comes to the PlayBook soon! And indeed good luck to BlackBerry - it's always a good thing to have competition (amd choice)!

White only available at Phones4U?

That's a lie, I work in Carphone Warehouse, and I literally unboxed our white display model today. Poor article.

Hate it when people use the word 'literally' when it makes no sense in the sentence ^

So did you unbox it, or just pulled the first flap?

Yeah I figuratively had breakfast this morning. It was nice.

On a serious note, I hope Blackberry do well. A lot of jobs at stake if they don't. Also the competition can only be good for consumers

I read a review a month or so ago saying that the new BB10 os will basically make laptops obsolete, ummmm i dont think so not with this os, think BB had this slightly wrong.....

I don't get the playbook bashing, I own one (and dont have a blackberry phone) does everything i want it to at a very fast speed. BB10 was promised for it too so it should get better than ever in coming weeks.

i'm really impressed by the Z10, can't wait to get one. much better than I expected, its the first BB10 device! with a brand new OS, they need much more credit to be given.
it smokes every phone you can think of in browser test! the email/messaging and keyboards are the best out there!
the white version look really nice.

Black Berry 10 phone is awesome!!!

This phone looks amazing. I watched the launch, and was literally blown away with what RIM (Black Berry) has accomplished. I use to have an iphone, and the second this new Black Berry 10 is available on February 5, 2013 I am going to be standing in line at Rogers to pick one up (and toss the old outdated iphone into the trash). This phone is full touch screen, well using the qwerty style keyboard. It is going to have a large database of cool apps available on release day, and also supports other cool features like facebook, twitter, and more. The camera is great quality, and screen quality is also extremely good. Device is a good size, and has lots of memory for those cool tracks I love listening too. Good bye Iphone, hello Black Berry! Switch is done! RIM is back baby! Jason I just pre ordered 1 I'm having issues with iphones the last few days and seems old to this bad boy lol lots are saying puts android 6 years behind no thanks on to the NEW :) :) :)

PUTS ANDROID 6 YEARS BEHIND, are you for real i think youre expectations area little high not to say the least, my dad picked his new Z10 up yesterday and trust me it aint nowhere near the latest android jelly bean, yes it is fast and super smooth but the app store is terrible only around 70,000 compared to android and apples 700,000+, to me the UI experience is like spaggetti junction its all over the place, the camera is not very responsive and then again it also takes a picture when you dont want it to.The icons and big and bold and kind of reminds me of text in a childs story book, all in all seriously not impressed its to me about a year behind android at moment and with rumours of the next android OS Lemon Key Pie around the corner it will be even further behind, personaly i hate apple products but give me an iphone over this any day of the week..........

I'm sure Blackberry probably checked everything before they released the phone to try and make sure they were sue proof from Apple. If not then boy was that a dumb move not to.

Worth Haggling.
Both my sister and I were due for upgrades on our phones. I had a look online, then in EE, O2 and Carphone Warehouse. Having compared the Z10 instore with SIII, I got my Z10 with Orange for £30 on a £27.90 per month tariff with unlimited mins+texts+500mb data. Expect my phone in a couple of days.
Admittedly, aps aren't as largely available on Z10. However, I believe you can still sideload all major ones. As I have Kindle (sideloaded) on my playbook without issue, I have everything I really want.
Also SIII camera definitely looked better than z10 so if you want to make this a consideration, do so. This was a major plus point for my sister who switched to Samsung but then she has a Samsung tablet, (her deal with Orange, £50 for the phone, £26per month for unlimited mins+texts+500mb data, which works out £25 cheaper than my deal but my phone only came out on Thursday).
Neither my sister or I considered an iphone because of the cost, memory limitations and the phaff of using itunes anytime we want to transfer anything to our phones.
A major point about z10 is that if you have a playbook than you can connect to the internet wherever you are on your tablet via your phone. As such, neither Samsung, or apple offer this. I have a wifi only 64gb playbook which was bought for £230 (30th b'day present). If you combine all these costs over a 2 year period that comes to about £930, roughly £38.75 a month. I doubt Samsung or Apple can even come close to doing this at present.

@above comment, you say you connect your z10 with your playbook for internet and you can do it kn android or iphone cant, well you need to do some research, i have an galaxy s2 and a nexus 7 and i use internet on my tablet off my phone its called tethering, i do it all the time and it works brilliantly, and i have also checked out the bb10 vs android and yes it is smooth and it loads pages faster but were talking milliseconds, and the z10 cant do half of what the latest android can do...
