BlackBerry L-series squares up to iPhone 5 in latest leak

The next generation of BlackBerry is coming in the new year, and already the new phone is squaring up to the iPhone 5.

Codenamed the BlackBerry London, or L-series, the new phone will be one of the first to show off BlackBerry 10, the long-delayed and much-anticipated update to the BlackBerry operating system.

Indian site BBin posted this picture of the L-series phone next to the iPhone, revealing it's slightly larger than Apple's latest offering. Unlike previous models, the iPhone 5 is stretched to 4 inches, so judging from this snap rumours of the London's 4.2-inch screen look spot-on.

The London is also expected to boast a dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage plus a microSD slot for extra legroom, and an 8-megapixel camera.

BlackBerry builder Research in Motion will unveil BlackBerry 10 on 30 January, with two new phones expected in February. One seems certain to sport a signature BlackBerry keyboard for BB die-hards who just can't ditch their clicky keys, and the other, the London, will be all touchscreen.

The model with the keyboard is codenamed the Nevada and has also leaked ahead of its public debut.

Is RIM onto a winner with the L-series and BlackBerry 10, or has the iPhone and Android consigned BlackBerry to the history books? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

They need to start developing phones that don't mimic the iPhone in every way

I agree, Apple will probably try suing Blackberry now.
But I like the new blackberry design, it looks better that the iPhone design.

Can't help wondering about the number of of stories regarding Blackberry such as "I'm ashamed to be seen with my Blackberry" or "It can cause nickel poisoning" or the "Analyst's view that the 10 won't make any difference to Blackberry sinking". Sounds like somebody is very frightened of a phone that hasn't even hit the market yet.

It really looks as thought RIM have got something.

I like how they put an inconspicuous case on the iPhone to create an illusion. Now it looks like the devices are the same size, with the black berry having the bigger screen.....heh I see what you did there black berry.

Too late BlackBerry. I am an owner of the curve and playbook and once upon a time I was excited for this device. My next phone will be a galaxy 3 or maybe 4 by the time im ready to invest. I bought the playbook day 1 for $499 and cant get apps like xbox smartglass that say "works with any tablet."

One thing most missed in this spot the ONE difference is the prone to break mechanical button. It is missing on the BB10. So Apple cannot sue. Case closed.

Black Berry could make a come back if it prices it's device's right, all its new device's should be below £300. That way it'll attract new customers and can make money from its messaging services.

RIM's gotta remember that the Mobile World Congress 2013 is a few weeks after it launches it new devices and its Android rivals are most likely to reveal cheap phones with higher end specs. Plus, all the rumours on tech sites will put most people off.

What similarities do you see between the phone for Apple to sue Blackberry? A large touch screen? Did you notice that all LCD TVs, Cars, Buses, Trains, Planes sort of look the same???

iPhone is a touch screen smartphone and not the first one by far... there were touch screen phone 10 years before iPhone was even designed. The phone looks good, this is still the Dev Alpha I think given to the developers for app development

I think leaked images of the BlackBerry were out long before the newly elongated iPhone 5. Apple is starting to copy RIM again.

Well This thing is surely going to murder iOS for certain.
Here comes the Blackberry baby. Remember that Blackberry was the first to come up with "Smartphone" it can still prove that but its products too.

This type of problem sometimes may happened for the internet connectivity + the device interaction with the connectivity at that unfortunate moment.
Blackberry should release Both dual core and quad core with high end GPU and camera(more than 8 MP for rear & 2 MP for front). Because the smartphone is already in super phone level now a days.

Kids like iPhone's, and they've become a over priced, sickening "trend" that spoiled children "HAVE to HAVE"....and weak, pushover parents will skip their car payment this month to buy their 13 yr. old daughter the same phone that her friends have.

Basically, children use iphones....adults use BlackBerry's.

can't wait for January to get this thing, and Verizon, you better not screw with my upgrade this time!!!!
