Most HTC Desire phones are now running Android 2.2, but the company's other handsets are still due their Froyo updates. It seems HTC Legend owners mightn't have much longer to wait, with a recent announcement of the phone's imminent Android upgrade, but there's still no sign of anything for the Wildfire.
Back in June, HTC confirmed it was working on Froyo updates for its 2010 models. With the Desire upgrade already rolling out, we have been been waiting patiently on updates for the Legend and Wildfire.
"We know that a number of you have been very vocal about wanting an update for your Legend. First and foremost, we would like to apologise for not responding to your ongoing pleas about the update. But we have been listening," HTC said in a Facebook post.
The Legend update has been progressing well, according to HTC, and in the coming weeks Android 2.2 should be coming to unbranded Legend phones. But as was the case with the Desire, people with carrier-branded handsets will have to wait longer, as the updates have to undergo an approval process for each network.
It may take a while, but it's good news for HTC Legend owners, who might have been a little green with envy at the Desire's upgrade. Although it was a lengthy process and suffered several hiccups along the way, the Froyo update for Desire handsets should now be completely rolled out.
But there's still no word on an HTC Wildfire update. We have contacted HTC for more information on this, and we'll let you know when we hear back. Although the Desire took many of the plaudits this year, the Legend and Wildfire are both very decent phones in themselves.
The Legend is a fantastic four-and-a-half-star choice if you're looking for something with a smaller screen than the Desire, and the Wildfire is a good budget Android device. Android 2.2 will give these handsets a boost in terms of speed and extra features, including Flash capability.
Are you an HTC Legend or Wildfire owner waiting for Android 2.2? Do you think the update has taken too long? Have you been envious of Desire owners receiving the update first? Let us know.

I wonder how much it costs carriers to have to put their own version of the software for every upgrade. Surely it isn't cost effective? Hopefully in the near future they will just stick their logo on the start up scripts and leave it at that

nah weaz networks cant resist doing something to KEEP you there...with their bad apps and phone management...its just disgusting..
Im still waiting on 3 to re-release the 2.2 for the desire....I may even just unbrand my phone and get the official non branded update if they take any longer.

I have an HTC Desire and am loving Android FroYo. The reason I think it got the FroYo update first is because it is allegedly the most successful out of the Desire, Wildfire and Legend. I do however question the fact that the Wildfire doesn't have 2.2 yet as it was also very successful. The Legend however won't have been as successful as it is tied to vodafone UK (in the UK). My friend has the Legend and he claims to have FroYo but I find it hard to believe as HTC haven't announced an update for the Legend.

My Hero is running 2.2 (froydvillain) and it's good. Sense-less tho (ahem), so surely HTC can manage it on the Wildfire.

I have an unbranded HTC Legend. And for one simply reason I can't wait for the Froyo update. When I got the phone initially it worked great, no complaints, even currently running 2.1 I have had very little to complain about the phone just works, has never crashed and has been a pleasure to own its metallic frame. now I sense that you are all waiting for the.............. but...... well here it is, since a random update a few months back the phone has displayed the first message received from a contact rather than the last one. This means that when you receive a message you have to thumb down through the entire thread of messages if you want to read a message, now this is fine if it's someone you never talk to but should you have 20+ messages from a contact this is an eternity everytime you want to read/respond to a message.
The sooner the HTC updates the legend the better, otherwise I may start to become a less than happy camper
kudos to the HTC service centre, I emailed them the problem and had a custom reply within 10 minutes
However, their response was a veiled answer of "we are aware of this problem, but we are waiting for 2.2 Froyo to sort the problem out for us"

It`s about time Wildfire has an update ,2.1 is not correct ie ,bluetooth over a photo and then an .mp3 or any music . And guess what , your music will get one of your photos in the music Album ,instead of a pic of a music note .When adding your photos to contacts it can be a pain , it also sends an sms as an mms at times and costs......you can not put apps on the SD card.........and ,and ,and , Ok just a few things to be ironed out . So YES all Wildfire users would really like htc to listen and please upgrade what is really one of the BEST phones to hit the street.......................in years

I can't wait for 2.2 and look for the update daily, purely out of curiosity of what it is like. I really enjoy using my legend and am so glad I got it, my LG KM900 was an embarrassment. The sms fault is annoying but I just installed another sms program which works fine. Hurry up HTC, bring us lowly 2.1 users back in line with those iPhone using sheep. Oh and HTC android tablet/pad is long overdue to!

Android 2.1 is just a little bit large for wildfire. Performance boost which is due to 2.2 is highly demanded. With 2.1, wildfire is not complete.

Wildfire will get to be more real as soon as Android 2.2 is released on it.... really looking for its update....!!!
