Acer Liquid Metal: This Android is a Terminator

Yet another version of Acer's Android smart phone, the Acer Liquid, has surfaced -- and this one is made of metal. The Liquid Metal was spotted on a Russian blog, so take these specs and images with a delicious spoonful of salted cucumbers

Acer stuck with the design of the Liquid, but bumped up the version of Android, when it released the Acer Liquid E. In similar fashion, the Liquid Metal is rumoured to run Android 2.2 Froyo. But Acer also appears to have dealt with our complaints about the Liquid E's plasticky finish by trimming the Liquid Metal's case with what appears to be aluminium.

Otherwise, the Liquid Metal doesn't stray far from the specs we saw on the Liquid E, including an 89mm (3.5-inch) capacitive touchscreen and an 800MHz Qualcomm processor. An LED photo light is a welcome addition to the 5-megapixel camera seen on the Liquid E.

The Liquid Metal is also rumoured to support Bluetooth 3.0, which transfers data more quickly than older Bluetooth versions and sucks less battery juice.

Acer has been churning phones out over the past year, especially since it bought E-TEN. But it's still not made a phone that's really set the world on fire and caught the attention of the networks. We think a Liquid with a metal case could be a great step towards changing that, adding a frisson of sexiness to a phone that sorely needs it.

There's no news as to when we might see the Liquid Metal in shops, but we'll keep you updated as and if this rumour becomes reality.

What a stunning looker! If performance matches, I would want one.
