The C6 was only recently picked up by Vodafone, but more details have emerged about the C6-01, which you may be able to buy by the middle of September, after this year's Nokia World.
There have been conflicting reports, but we think the C6-01 might have the Symbian 3 OS upgrade, as claimed by Mobile Geek Inc, rather than keeping the C6's dated Symbian 1 S60 (5th edition). It should also have an 8-megapixel camera. Continue reading...

Android 2.2 update to HTC Desire on Orange: Don't hold your breath
Android fans there has been a delay in receiving the 2.2 Froyo update from HTC, & we now expect it to be available mid-Sep. Apologies
If you're an Orange HTC Desire owner waiting with bated breath for your update to Android 2.2, you'll have to wait a little longer. There's been a a delay in receiving the 2.2 Froyo update from HTC that will slow down the update, said Orange in a tweet today. We can expect the update in mid-September, rather than the imminent update that we expected.
HTC released the official update at the beginning of August, but networks have to test the new version before they unleash it on the world. The delay isn't due to Orange adding their own custom gubbins to the operating system, said Orange. Updates to Desires on other networks, such as Vodafone, have already begun. Continue reading...

Women catching up to men in mobile Web use
The number of women using the Internet on their smart phones is fast catching up to the number of men, according to new research from Opera, makers of the Opera Mini mobile browser.
Opera Mini is catching on with both male and female users, but the rate of increase is larger for women, according to the report. Between May 2008 and July 2010, the number of female users using Opera Mini increased by 575 per cent, while male users increased by 233 per cent.
The proportions of mobile Web users is also equalising. In 2008, 88 per cent of worldwide Opera Mini owners were men and 12 per cent were women. That's evened out -- a little -- to 77 per cent male and 23 per cent female. In the UK, 31.5 per cent of Opera Mini users are women, and 68.5 per cent are men.
The change could be due to the Web becoming a more inclusive place for all types of people, with a wider variety of sites that appeal across the sexes. The expansion of social sites such as Facebook is likely to be another force that pulls in people who may not have felt the need to log on from their phones before. Continue reading...
Red telephone boxes brought back by Google Voice
They might be dying out in the UK -- a poignant, elegant reminder of a time before mobile phones -- but Google is taking red telephone boxes across the Atlantic.
After the integration of Google Voice into Gmail was announced, it was also revealed that the K6 (as the red telephone box is also known) would be installed in a number of US universities and airports to promote the voice over IP service.
The boxes are Google-branded and free to use, using Google Voice to make domestic phone calls. The Internet is used to carry the calls and offers other services such as voicemail transcription and SMS. Google has already tried to get a Voice app in the Apple store for mobile calling, but it wasn't approved.
Searchengineland took a video of a booth in action at the Google campus, and it seemed to work just like an ordinary phone box would -- though sadly, it didn't have an old-style dial.
You pick up the handset and a message introduces you to Google Voice. You're then prompted to dial a number, followed by the pound sign. After a 10 or 15 second pause you're transferred, due to having to dial into the Google Voice server. That was something Google was looking to speed up. Continue reading...

Nokia C7-00, Nokia's second Symbian 3 phone, breaks cover
Nokia is taking its time with the Nokia N8, its first phone to run Symbian 3, in the hope it won't have the same birthing pains as the Nokia N97. But the Nokia C7-00 -- the second, more affordable Symbian 3 phone -- is already leaking all over the Russian Mobile-Review blog.
Expect the C7 to have an 8-megapixel camera with two LED photo lights, and an 89mm (3.5-inch) AMOLED screen. Despite the bump to version 3 of Symbian, the user interface on the C7 looks similar to what we've seen on the N97 and other recent Nokia touchscreen phones. Continue reading...
