Free Starbucks Wi-Fi for UK iPhone users

Mobile Phones

O2 has announced today that iPhone customers will soon get free Wi-Fi at all Starbucks venues in the UK, as the coffee peddler rolls out BT Openzone hotspots to all 678 of its outlets. O2 mobile broadband customers with Wi-Fi access included as part of their contract will get in on the deal by the summer, too.

The beverage behemoth will begin rolling out BT Openzone from 20 April. Wi-Fi is usually faster than 3G, and uses less battery power -- something heavy iPhone users are advised to remember.

Customers who use O2's mobile broadband service get free Wi-Fi from hotspot provider The Cloud, but the service is almost never available at Starbucks (seriously, we know, being Starbucks-addicted Cloud users ourselves -- it sucks). So this is music to our ears.

From 20 April, check your local Starbucks for signs of BT Openzone Wi-Fi, and consult O2's help pages if you need help logging on.
