HTC S740: Hands-on with a Windows Mobile phone we can live with
We've seen our fair share of Windows Mobile devices and while we like some of them, most of them end up annoying us. The HTC S740 is definitely a Windows Mobile phone we like -- in fact, it might just be one of the best phones to come out from HTC.
We know what you're thinking: 'this isn't exactly the iPhone', and we agree it's not the most exciting handset out there, but it works, and it works well. When it's closed, it allows for easy dialling and texting using a standard keypad. If you need to type out a long email, simply slide the phone part to the side and you've got a full Qwerty keypad.
The S740 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard, offering a simple but effective interface that can work better than Windows Mobile Professional. There's HSDPA and Wi-Fi for fast access to the Internet, an expandable microSD card slot and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
It's certainly not a groundbreaking device, but it's a very effective Windows Mobile phone and for that reason we think you'll really like it if you need Microsoft support on the go. The HTC S740 is currently available SIM-free for around £350 and will hopefully be available on for free on a monthly contract soon. Expect more info in our full review soon.
