Mobile Phones

As we expected, Nokia unveiled its Comes With Music service today, which will be officially available from 16 October from Carphone Warehouse.

The service will initially launch with a Nokia 5310 XpressMusic handset, on pay as you go, for £130. We also have word it may be available with new Nokia N95 8GBs, but we haven't been able to confirm this officially at the time of writing.

Just over two million songs will be available for download at launch, all of which are downloaded using a PC, then side-loaded on to the handset.

We'll have more information about Comes With Music soon, as well as our usual hands-on, opinions-on and cheeks-on reports as we get to test the service out in person. This space: you'd be wise to watch it. -Nate Lanxon

Update: Comes With Music is advertised as an unlimited service, and indeed downloading is not restricted, but here's the inevitable fair use policy: "If average usage for all users reached predefined levels, Nokia is allowed to restrict the number of downloads for individual users." No mention of what those 'levels' might be, but we'll ask.
