Sony Ericsson G705: With added Web goodness

Sony Ericsson today announced a slider phone aimed at people who want to use the Web on the go. In typical Sony Ericsson style, the G705 is a conservative-looking handset that appears functional but boasts some interesting features. But is this another average mobile from Sony Ericsson or does it pack some punch?

The Sony Ericsson G705 might look humble but it's an accomplished piece of kit. There's HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and YouTube support. The Web browser sounds pretty good too, allowing you to zoom in and out of full Web pages, so you can see what's going on rather than trying to navigate tiny columns of text.

A relatively large screen makes it easy to read emails and the G705 supports Microsoft Exchange, so you can hook it up to your work email. There's a Google shortcut key to ensure you're never away from a quick search and the assisted GPS is tied in with Google Maps to help you figure out where you are.

On the back there's a 3.2-megapixel camera and you can use it in combination with the GPS to geo-tag your pics. Going on these specs, it certainly does have some grunt, but we can't give you a final verdict until we get one in. The G705 is going to be available at the end of the year, so expect a full review in good time. -Andrew Lim
