Epic win: SimCity and Sims 3 coming to iPhone and iPod touch

Games and Gear

This weekend, when not being taxied home by Transport For London as a result of its epic incompetence, we've mostly been playing Spore -- the most intelligently designed piece of modern games craftsmanship since 1999's 70's Robot Anime Geppy-X: The Super Boosted Armor.

But Spore isn't the only ace tucked up Electronic Arts' sleeve, because it's also announced that SimCity is one of nine classic EA titles being ported to Apple's iPhone.

If, like all of us, you're a gamer in your twenties, you'll remember long nights in your youth playing SimCity on the SNES, and SimCity 2000 on an old Macintosh. Whether you used the 'IMACHEAT' hack to inflate your city's wealth before annihilating its unsuspecting populace with fires, earthquakes and alien invasions, or simply played the game by the book, SimCity 2000's classic MIDI soundtrack will undoubtedly infect you with a crippling bout of nostalgia.

Other games announced to be in development for the iPhone include The Sims 3, Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon (wtf?), Mahjong, Monopoly: Here & Now The World Edition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09, and Need for Speed Undercover.

No word yet on release dates, but we're keeping our fingers crossed for a mention at tomorrow's Apple event.

If none of these titles tickled your fancy, perhaps some from our classic feature highlighting the 30 dumbest videogame titles in history will. -Nate Lanxon
