Samsung F480: Kicking the iPhone in the megapixels

Mobile Phones

You know we got soul -- the Samsung U900 Soul anyway, which we Craved a few days ago. Now the Soul mobile phone is joined in the Samsung range by the F480, a 3G phone with a 5-megapixel camera, autofocus and LED flash.

If this looks and sounds familiar, it's not just because of the iPhone-like chrome trim, round corners and glossy screen; this model is very closely related to the P520 Armani phone, but with the designer label missing from its collar.

The F480 boasts a giant 71mm (2.8-inch) 240x320-pixel (QVGA) touchscreen. Tactile feedback vibrates the phone when you tap the touchscreen, so you know that it has registered your command.

The F480 boasts HSDPA downloads at up to 7.2Mbps. Other features include an FM radio and 240MB of onboard storage, which fortunately can be expanded with microSD memory cards.

We'll meet the F480 in spring. -Rich Trenholm
