BlackBerry 8300: Curve up the smart phone slopes

Yesterday RIM announced the lightest, slimmest BlackBerry to date, unusually named the Curve. This relatively compact handset measures 60mm wide by 107mm tall by 16mm deep and has a similar layout to the BlackBerry 8800.

On the inside you get quad-band and EDGE connectivity, 64MB of internal memory with the option to expand via a microSD slot (up to 4GB), a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player, Bluetooth 2.0 and a bright colour screen with an ambient-light sensor.

We're really impressed RIM has included a 3.5mm headphone jack on the Curve, as this means you can use your own headphones to listen to music. It's a shame there's no 3G, Wi-Fi or GPS connectivity, however, since it would make browsing the Web and downloading data much faster.

The BlackBerry 8300 Curve will be available for free on a monthly contract from most major networks, including O2 and Vodafone. Expect a full review soon. -Andrew Lim
