Sony Ericsson K610i: Slick spy phone

Mobile Phones

Any Casino Royale fans out there will know that Sony Ericsson phones get plugged throughout the film. One of the handsets on cinematic display is the Sony Ericsson K610i (pictured) that features a 2-megapixel camera, 3G connectivity and an expandable Memory Stick Micro slot.

Bond himself doesn't use the K610i, instead opting for the beefier K800i, which features a larger colour screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus. That may make the K800i seem the superior phone, but don't be so hasty, Mr. Bond -- you should definitely check out the K610i.

The K610i is a smaller and lighter handset, measuring 45mm by 102mm by 17mm and weighing in at 89g. It also has a music player, and the camera isn't bad if you just want to take the odd picture for MMS messages or contact pics.

Most importantly, though, the K610i has 3G connectivity, which means you can browse the Web faster than you would be able to on a GPRS-enabled handset. You can also make video calls with the secondary VGA camera.

It's true that it doesn't have as large a screen, or the almighty 3.2-megapixel camera, but it won't take up as much space in your pocket, it looks great and it has most of the applications featured in the K800i.

The K610i is currently available for free on a monthly contract or on pay as you go for around £160. You can also visit Sony Ericsson's brand new dedicated store on Kensington High Street, London. -AL

Update: a full review of the Sony Ericsson K610i is now live.
