Nokia E60: Accidental VoIP hero

The Nokia E60 is one of the most understated phones in the world. It measures 49mm by 115mm by 17mm -- not particularly small or thin. It looks like it was designed in the '80s and it doesn't have a camera, but before you think, "Why is Crave even bothering to mention it?", check out the specs...

The E60 runs on Series 60 3rd Edition and features 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity with the option to run VoIP. The reason this has Crave doing backwards somersaults is that relative to other mobile VoIP handsets, this is one of the most compact mobile VoIP phones on the market.

You can use the E60 to make cheap VoIP calls from a Wi-Fi hotspot, meaning that you can dramatically cut the cost of calls, particularly if you're travelling abroad. Companies like aql and truphone provide services that let you do exactly this, and we hope Skype will also have a mobile solution for Symbian very soon.

The good times don't end there, though. The Nokia E60 has a Web browser that you can use in portrait mode, support for push email, POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, Bluetooth and infrared connectivity, and an easy-to-use keypad. You can also run a plethora of third-party Symbian applications, including RSS readers, maps and dictionaries.
