LG KU800: 3G Chocolate phone

Mobile Phones

If you loved the Chocolate phone but were disappointed that the 1.3-megapixel camera wasn't that great and there wasn't an expandable memory slot or 3G connectivity, then start smiling.

Last week we thought that the LG Shine and Chocolate phone II were going to be the only Chocolate phone successors this year, but LG had already sneakily done a deal with Vodafone and launched a new 3G version of the Chocolate phone in Germany, called the KU800.

It's slightly thicker and heavier than the original Chocolate phone, measuring 46mm wide by 95mm tall by 17mm thick and weighing 98g. It also has less internal memory, with only 60MB instead of 128MB. However, it features a 2-megapixel camera, expandable microSD slot and 3G connectivity with a secondary VGA camera for video calls -- so it did need to be a little chunkier.

One confusing fact is that according to the spec sheet on the Vodafone Germany site, the KU800's screen only displays 56,000 colours, instead of 262,000 like the original Chocolate phone. Also, some blogs are claiming that the KU800 might not have a 2-megapixel camera after all and instead features a 1.3-megapixel one -- Vodafone's press release says it does have a 2-megapixel camera, so we'll stick with that for the moment.

The KU800 is currently not available in the UK, but according to Vodafone's press release, it will be in shops by Christmas. Expect a full review soon. -AL
