O2 Jet: Duracell Bunny eat your heart out

Mobile Phones

Crave often gets asked why the battery life on mobile phones is so bad. The answer is that while technical developments around things like cameras, Bluetooth and colour screens has advanced very quickly, the humble battery hasn't made as much progress.

One solution to battery life problems is to follow some of our tips and turn everything, aside from the phone itself, off. The other option is to buy the O2 Jet.

The Jet is a new O2-branded handset that essentially consists of a huge battery strapped onto the back of a phone. It doesn't feature 3G connectivity, a camera or even an expandable memory slot, but it will stay on for 540 hours on standby and give you a whopping 10 hours of talk time.

That means you don't need to recharge it every two, or even four days -- we're getting away with charging every five days. It also happens to be a very easy phone to use -- there's a large, easy-to-press keypad, a colour screen and a three-way switch for putting it on silent or vibrate.

The only downside to this phone is that it is rather chunky, but we're willing to sacrifice some pocket space for the luxury of not having to constantly plug it in. It's available with O2 for free on a monthly contract or for £60 on pay as you go, and it comes with a desk stand, car charger and plastic case. Expect a full review soon. -AL

Update: We now have a full review of the O2 Jet live in our Reviews channel.
