You're Marty McFly and the year is 2015. You've just parked your Delorean, put on your self-lacing Nike trainers, donned your self-drying jacket and jumped on to your hoverboard. Life is great... then suddenly you remember you've left your mobile at home, so you jump in the car and fly back to the, er, past.
Crave can't begin to tell you how much we wish we were McFly (the wisecracking time traveller, not the spotty boy band). But we think Sony Ericsson might be on their way to creating the mobile phone that would be lying in wait in Marty's bedroom. Presenting the W950i, Sony Ericsson's next-generation Walkman phone.
Weighing in at 112g and only 15mm thick, this phone packs an impressive 4GB of internal memory. Not to mention a 262k colour touchscreen with a 240x320-pixel resolution, an FM radio, push email and handwriting recognition. It also has dedicated music player keys and a jog dial for quick access to your MP3 collection.
This is undeniably a cool phone. Just look at it. It has a completely flush keypad, it has a huge screen -- and it's purple. Unfortunately, reality bites and the fantasy starts to dwindle. There's no camera or Wi-Fi and if it's going to make it to 2015, it needs them badly. Expect a full review soon. -AL

I don't want a camera, I don't want to pay for a camera and in fact my job requires that often I am not allowed a camera. So a top end phone that i can use and not pay for redundant features... Fantastic!

Excuse me?? A mobile without a camera? For me that's a bit like a cup of tea without the .. er ... tea. I'd miss the camera part before I'd miss the phone part, barring emergencies.

This is undeniably a fantastic phone. All Sony needs to add to this phone is a wifi and a camera. These are some of the basic necessities of modern day.

I cant believe Sony have forgot them, it surely couldn't have been a conscious decision, I reckon someone at Sony design didn't pick up their emails one day and that was the day they got sent the email saying "oh yeah and don't forget the 3 meg camera and the wifi, thanks", they are a basic requirement for a modern phone, and I have been waiting for a phone like this all my life.
So to all the designers at Sony check your inbox.

OK you carry a mobile phone, a digital camera, and ipod and your laptop of choice with Wifi. Which of these do you want as standalone devices and which do you want integrated into one?
For me the answer seems obvious. Which two devices need your ears? A phone with a decent built in MP3 player (with optional FM Radio) is all i need. Listen to music and receive calls all via the same head phones.
I like to have the best kit and have avoided a new phone (currently have a simple and light Nokia 6210) and an MP3 player as the phones either have too many redundant functions or the MP3 players all have various problems or I just don't have the pocket room in my summer shorts for all that stuff. Get a laptop with wifi for surfing the net (how can u see text on a little screen, c'mon get real) and a decent Canon IXUS camera for pics. This type of music phone is all I need and size and weight are more important factors for me than gimmic cameras and useless features.
Good call NOKIA!!!!!

This is definitely the phone for me and one worth waiting for!!!
I always thought the camera was a useless feature on a phone considering the size of digital cameras nowadays.

A phone without camera! Yes, indeed, excellent. I am in the same boat as others, not allowed to bring camera into my work site. However, the W950i suit my needs, as I connect my PalmDrive via bluetooth, and if need for WiFi, I will use the PalmDrive directly.
For people who desperately need a camera in a mobile PHONE :o) there are many other opportunities on the market, and for us that needs the fast connections to do some serious work, this is an sought after device that meets our requirements.

i really cannot see people paying £400 for a phone without a camera, even thou it has got music recognition, i wans seriously thinking about paying out 400 smackers for this phone then realized it hasn't got a camera

I got this phone because I didn't want to carry a phone and a Nano around. So it hasn't got a camera, I don't miss it. That's it. Simple.
Oh, and to the person who said they'd miss the camera facility on their phone, before missing the phoning capabilities, you're kidding? Yeah? Why don't you carry around a camera (whith a much better spec) and reverse the charges when making a call? ;-)
PS. The phone is the dog's danglies.

Who needs a camera? Of everyone I know who has a phone with a camera (including myself), not one ever really uses it except as a gimick. However, nearly everyone carries an ipod or equivalent. I would love to have a phone that meant I didn't need to carry my ipod everywhere. This phone looks great. Bring it on!
