O2 XDA Mini S touches down

The 02 XDA Mini S landed on our laps this morning and instead of causing us to double up in pain like most hefty smart phones would, it touched down fairly gently -- narrowly missing our tenderest parts.

The handset is based on the HTC Wizard, which first appeared in Germany earlier this year. It weighs just 160g and isn't much bigger than an ordinary mobile phone (58 by 109 by 24mm), but it manages to incorporate a hidden Qwerty keyboard that slides out from under the 64mm (2.5-inch) touch-sensitive screen.

When the keyboard is 'deployed', the orientation of the display changes from portrait to landscape and you can use your thumbs to type emails and text messages. You can also edit and create documents in Pocket versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.

Like any self-respecting PDA phone, it has Bluetooth, 802.11b wireless connectivity, and for those who refuse to let go of the past, an infrared port.
