Philips 755: not quite right

Meet the Philips 755 Tag-it. It’s a mobile phone with no Bluetooth, a basic VGA camera, no video and little in the looks department. Not a good start, but it is the first affordable phone we’ve seen that lets you play with a stylus without having to lug a Sony Ericsson P900 or an O2 XDA around.

The problem is, after a couple of minutes of drawing glasses on photos of your cat or horns on your girlfriend it all starts to get a bit tired. It’s then that you start to notice a few other niggles -- such as the lack of handwriting recognition, or the needlessly complicated menus. Worst of all, every time we use the ringtone mixer it ends up sounding like Cotton-Eye Joe.

Combine all that with the huge shutter lag on the camera and the 755 is starting to look a tad disappointing, even with the nifty lens cover and the ability to view pictures on TV. We suppose Philips were aiming at ‘the kidz’ with this one, but frankly the kids deserve better.
