ViewSonic has sprung another surprise by launching a new 10-inch dual-boot tablet, following this week's 7-inch £350 tablet reveal.
The ViewPad 100 can dual boot into either Windows 7 Home Premium or Android 1.6. It will cost £550 and is out in October.
The capacitive touch screen has a resolution of 1024 x 600, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a sensor that orientates the screen depending on how it's held. Inside, there is a 16GB solid state drive, an Intel Atom N455 1.66GHz processor, and 1GB of RAM.
A dual-boot tablet might sound like a good idea, but we weren't won over by the concept when we saw it applied to an Acer Aspire One netbook we reviewed last year.
Android 1.6 seems like an odd choice as most Android phones are shipping with a later version, 2.2. Gizmodo Australia suggested that version 1.6 was chosen as it's the most recent version that could support the Atom chip, which sounds convincing to us.
On first glance, the ViewPad 7 we've looked at looks a much better proposition than the ViewPad 100, as it has kept things simple with the Android 2.2 OS, plus it's £200 cheaper.

What is it with the bloody 1024x600 resolution? That's just pants. it needs at least 800px vertical to display anything that's been designed for 1024x768. And slapping an old version of Android on it doesn't help. Yet another half arsed attempt. I don't get it, what do these companies gain out of not doing it _right_? They are competing against the ipad after all, and even though it lacks all kind of features, one thing it certainly is is polished. And polish is what most of these tablets are lacking I fear.

i dont understand why we need Android here and there, If be windows 7 , let it be and if be andriod after all we still need to shotdown to switched between the two OS. is like half baked bread. I hope this manufacturals are reading reviews.......keep it simple and dont compete with Apple . Apple is leading too far and there is nothing we can do about that . For we students keep it simple on windows... flash + Adobe can work with either ipad nor Droid ...........pls keep it simple.
