Toshiba Libretto U100: Not for fatties

We're reminded of the The Simpsons episode where Homer dials a number on his phone only to be told, "The fingers you have used to dial are too fat. To obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now." With the Toshiba Libretto U100 everyone's fingers are too fat -- it's so tiny (210 by 165 by 30mm) that even the most emaciated of the Crave team felt like a porker.

It's incredible that Toshiba has managed to pack a 1.2GHz Pentium M and 60GB hard disk into this Bible-sized, sub-1kg laptop, but you'll need nimble fingers or a hired child to type on it for you. Children can only work very short hours and are expensive, so remember to factor this into the cost.

The Libretto comes bundled with a docking station that includes a DVD recorder drive. This more-or-less doubles the U100's size, but does mean that you can watch movies on the move. There's also integrated Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB and -- amazingly -- FireWire. We'll be taking a more thorough look at the Libretto over the next week. Expect a full review soon. -CS
