Skyrim on the Asus Transformer Prime, sort of, with Splashtop

Want to play the game of the moment on the tablet of the hour? Then check out Skyrim on the Asus Transformer Prime -- sort of.

Nvidia is showing off the power of its new Tegra 3 processor by combining two of the most popular bits of geek goodness going: smash hit sword 'n' sorcery fantasy game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the Asus Transformer Prime Android tablet. The glue in-between is an app called Splashtop.

You may know Splashtop as a remote access app that lets you connect to your computer through your tablet or phone. That's exactly what's going on in a demo at tech trade show CES in Las Vegas right now, as filmed by Phandroid, with a Windows 7 PC streaming to a Prime with a USB controller.

The PC renders the graphics, compresses and streams them to the tablet, which then streams your actions to the PC, all over Wi-Fi and with no discernible lag.

Bringing the Dragonborn to the Transformer Prime involves Splashtop THD, an optimised version of the app that lets you control your PC with a Tegra tablet.

The 10-inch Transformer Prime is the first quad-core tablet and the first to be powered by the new Nvidia Tegra 3 chip. As well as the quad-core Tegra powerhouse, which fires up all four cores at 1.3GHz for more intensive tablet-fondling like web browsing or gaming, there's a fifth companion chip that runs at 1.4GHz when you only need a single core for simple tasks. Perfect for shouting people off cliffs and taking arrows to the knee.

Okay, so the tablet itself isn't running the show, so you couldn't do a spot of dragon-slaying on the bus. But it does point to a possible future of advanced games played on portable devices, thanks to processors elsewhere doing the hard work and beaming the results to your tablet, phone or lightweight laptop -- like OnLive, the video game streaming service.

The Asus Transformer Prime is available now for around £500. Splashtop is downloadable now from Android Market. For more on Skyrim and other games on consoles, computers, phones and tablets, check out our button-bashing buddies at GameSpot.

I used to think Skyrim was High Fantasy, becouse of the huge lore and nation endangering problems in the game but then i looked on wikipedia and found out you're probably right.

I tried this last night with my original Transformer and could not get the screen resolution to work. I think being able to play a game like CIV 5 through splashtop on the transformer would be great for those sleepless nights where you can't be bothered to get up... well as long as you leave you PC on all night that is !
