The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is going widescreen. Rumoured specs for the sequel to the popular 5-inch phone-stroke-tablet thingy reveal it will have quad-core power, 4G, Jelly Bean, and a 16:9 screen.
Seoul Newspaper claims that the new Note will have a slightly bigger 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen. As well as being 16:9, the display will boast a 1,280x720 resolution, perfect for treating your eyeballs to high-definition movies while on the go.
Underneath that slab of a screen the Note 2 is set to be powered by a quad-core 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 4412 processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of Google's Android software. It also packs an 8-megapixel camera and will offer next-generation data speeds in countries where they have 4G phone networks.
We already know the Note 2 will once again include the Note's signature stylus, or S Pen, complimented by special apps. Check out legendary film director Wim Wenders getting spaced out by the prospects...
The iPhone 5 is also expected to switch to a 16:9 screen when it's revealed later this year.
The Note 2 will be unveiled tomorrow at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event, at technology bunfest IFA in Berlin. We'll be there in force to give you the first news and previews, so be sure to keep it CNET.
On the subject of oversized devices, the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 is a new media player with a whopping 5.8-inch screen -- even bigger than the Note. It runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and we'll try it out at IFA.
Is the Note 2 looking good? Would you buy one? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

It's the pen/stylus that really appeals because (I've heard) it has the pressure sensitivity of a watcom desktop tablet so excellent for sketching and painting digitally, anywhere. Nice.
This tablet is probably the first that is actually useful.

I like how it says be creative at the end of the advert. I never knew that lugging around a weird part tablet part phone part weird stylus thing like a PDA from the 90s made me creative. I've been missing out

Useless comment. This is a rumour so how are you going to get one in a few days? Why would 12 mp camera make it for you? Nothing to do with optics or sensor? Why would you never buy Apple again?
millgate 28 August, 2012 15:10
So you know Samsung's delivery plans, do you billfred ? If the writer you sneer at is satisfied with a 12MP camera - who are you to sneer?
And as for never buying Apple again - he's welcome to the clan !
Those of us who have watched Apple sink from their self-elected 'pinnacle' on the day they first broadcast 'that' video which sneered at IBMers for being a bunch of 'clones' - have never forgiven Apple.
Many are disgusted to watch whilst Apple has developed into a thoroughly disgraceful, tax-avoiding, ignoble, organisation whose only remaining pride seems to be invested in a rectangular slab of plastic and glass with rounded corners.
Heaven help them! ... they'll probably need it at the rate their standing is falling in the market's opinion stakes.

Maybe he means "Pre-Order"??
anonymous 28 August, 2012 15:59
@ Anonymous, Im affraid that you wont be getting one in a few days as Ive heard it wont be available for purchase till October some time, this is just a reveal.
Idk why ppl put down the Note, I got the original Galaxy Note a few months back & its the only Android device out of the many Ive had that I actually love & really have no complaints about. I even had a 10.1" tablet & still prefer gaming & everything on my Galaxy Note. Maybe they complain just because they cant afford one ? I gotta say there is one downfall & that is once ya go Galaxy Note you can never leave because every phone seems so tiny & unappealing. Ppl say the Galaxy S3 is too big which for us with a glorious Note the GS3 seems mini when placed next to our Beast of a device. Galaxy Note may be big but its a real man sized toy & fits my 6'7" 300lbs frame just fine, so go ahead & keep writing complaints about it on your tiny little girly sized devices you little girly men lol. -KID ANDROID

ANOTHER crap samsung product from korea.....next
anonymous 28 August, 2012 19:42
^Another crap, useless comment from a CrApple fanboy.
anonymous 28 August, 2012 20:18
I really don't think a 300lbs frame is something to be proud of - you do realise that makes you massively obese?
Besides a galaxy note isn't just for people with fat fingers like yourself, it also displays almost full webpages, which I find useful...

Look at it this way; continued loyalty to a fascist brand (apple) in an increasingly libertarian cybersphere is, in and of itself, symptomatic of a pathology- the deprecation of the self and a sordid resignation to docility. Apple says to its mindless sheep "jump!" and they chorus "how high?" SAD!
Ruffus Stone 29 August, 2012 00:07
The mindless Sheep are the haters, who infect forums like this one, spewing their childish hatred for, of all things, an electronics tech company, i.e. Apple.
This band of saddo's come over as a very poor bunch of adolescent nerds, with nothing better to do but spend their time posting rubbish on the net.
Do you realise how pathetic it looks to people in the normal world?
As for the Note. It seems to be a good device for those who really need and can use it's screen real-estate and utility.
However, I suspect a great number of sales also go to people who just want a bigger toy than other people have.
Philip Alexander 29 August, 2012 13:29
That's what I call "BIG". Will appeal to some people perhaps to those who are seeking a worthy compromise between a phone and a tablet. Personally I adore the idea to have a very big-bigger-biggest screen but that reserved to my TV :) As for Apple... a great concept that turned nasty and it is rotten to the core (FYI for those who did not notice or blinded by "I want It Too" moto). Long live Android! Open Source = Tolerance = Honesty = Freedom = Individuality.

I own Apple and Android devices. I had an iPhone 3GS and upgraded to a Note 4 months ago. The reason for leaving was that I wanted a bigger screen, faster device and a little more freedom to customise. I also still own an iPad which does what I want it to. I have to say that Apple and Android devices both have their positives and negatives. Neither one is better than the other, horses for courses if you like. The one thing I will say is that Apple's rediculous court cases have damaged us as consumers as they are preventing development. for that reason I will not buy Apple again regardless of the product.
