We've just gone hands-on with the LG Netbook X110, people, and it's right up there with the absolute best of the best. Yeah, that's right -- even the now legendary Eee PC S101.
On initial inspection, it seems to tick all the right boxes. It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a 10-inch 1,024x600-pixel screen, a very comfortable keyboard and trackpad, a webcam, three USB ports, an SD card reader and 802.11g Wi-Fi. As well as the bubblegum pink ours came in (you love it really), it's available in more sensible white.
When we first heard about the X110, LG told us it would come with an integrated GPS module, and we laughed. LG seems to have listened to our constructive feedback, because the X110 now has an embedded 3G modem instead. Just remove the battery, insert your 3G SIM card, fire up the 3G launcher application in Windows XP, and you can hurtle along the information super motorway to your heart's content.
The only drawback is that you can only buy a Netbook X110 if you sign up to a mobile broadband contract from Phones4u. The cheapest of these is a £35 per month contract lasting 24 months. By the end of the contract, you'll have paid a whopping £840 -- so you'll really have to make the most of the 3GB (5GB on 3 mobile's tariff) download limit.
