Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition official pictures

The tablets go Xoom 2 by 2. Click through our gallery for all the official pictures of the new Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition.

The brace of Xoom sequels are powered by Honeycomb, the version of Google's Android software for tablets. It's designed to make the most of a tablets large screen, and the Xoom 2 has a 10-inch screen while the Media Edition has an 8-inch screen.

Not sure we follow Moto's logic there: we'd expect a media-focused version to be bigger, for the viewing of moviefilms and other media on the biggest possible screen. Motorola reckons it has a decent viewing angle for sharing your movies with friends, family and the odd-smelling chap sitting next to you on the bus.

Check out the rounded corners on the Xoom 2 and Media Edition, which lend it a distinctive look compared to the many black rectangles also on the market. It's a small thing, but even a small change lends the tablets a bit of character in such a crowded market.

The new tablets are a lot lighter than the predecessor, the original Xoom. That tablet was a bit of a bloater, so it's good to see the new models have shed some of the excess weight.

One thing that's been lost is the MicroSD card slot, which is kind of a downer because both models only include 16GB of built-in memory. Rival Android tablets often boast MicroSD or even the odd full-sized SD card slot to stuff your slate full of movies, music and more -- and even the iPad offers up to 64GB of storage.

I would say the curvy corners look more something like the newer nokia handsets lol....I reckon they weren't curved so motorola could be a little different in the market.....but just not sued by apple lol
