Time to get serious with the HP ElitePad 900. It's a new tablet for business types with serious business to do, complete with all manner of docks, a stylus and Windows 8 inside.
The ElitePad weighs a mere 1.5 pounds thanks to a lightweight aluminum case, making it perfect for waving around in presentations. And it transforms by adding clever Smart Jackets: different cases that include different docking accessories.
The Productivity Jacket turns the ElitePad into a laptop, docking the tablet into a keyboard with extra ports and an SD card reader. The Expansion Jacket includes USB connections, an HDMI socket and a second battery. And there's more to come, with more docks and -- of course -- a stylus.
The sizable 10.1-inch ElitePad squares off against the iPad, with a high-definition screen, Intel mobile processor, and 32GB or 64GB of SSD storage. The 8-megapixel camera shoots 1080p high definition video.
4G is an option, although it's likely that's the US flavour of 4G rather than the UK version. We also don't know exactly which chip will be built-in, but it's likely to be the new Clover Trail.
This is HP's second crack at tablets after the failure of the HP TouchPad. It's also planning Windows 8 ultrabooks, computers and laptops for when Windows 8 comes out on 26 October. The ElitePad lands in January.

Just a minor correction, Rich, it is an HP Touchpad. A device ahead of its time, albeit with a few design flaws on the hardware front.

HP Touchpad not HP PlayBook... Personally, I would have prefered a slimmer Touchpad to most android slates around today but it wasn't to be. The Elitepad looks cool, let's hope that it delivers.
