Hurricane Sandy may have washed out Google's planned Android extravaganza, but the weather can't stop the new Google Nexus 7 blowing into UK shops, complete with a new white case, 32GB of memory -- and for the first time, 3G.
A 32GB model of the Nexus 7 has been heavily rumoured in the run-up to Google's launch event. But 3G comes as something of a surprise, as the lack of 3G in the current models helps keep the cost down. So has the extra memory and 3G driven up the price of the new model?
Not at first glance: the 32GB Nexus 7, on sale today, costs just £200, and the 3G model just £240. We'll find out more prices on the 3G model from Three when that network launches the tablet in a matter of weeks.
If the price is as fiercely competitive as the Wi-Fi-packing Nexus 7, then Google's tablet could really take the fight to Apple's new iPad mini, announced last week. The 32GB iPad mini costs £350, £150 more expensive than the 32GB Nexus 7.
Google was expected to announce the new Nexus 7 at a lavish launch in New York today, but was forced to cancel as a vast hurricane looms over the East Coast. The Nexus 7 was to have been joined by a Nexus 10 tablet and LG Nexus 4 phone, so with luck the event will be rescheduled soon. More importantly, we hope that everyone affected by the hurricane comes out in one piece.
The new 32GB Nexus 7 is on sale from 4.30 today at almost any shop you care to name, including gadget shops PC World, Currys, and Comet, as well as supermarkets Tesco, Asda, and Sainsburys. The 3G model will be on Three and Google Play in the middle of November -- we'll keep you posted on deals.

Where's any confirmation that it's out at 4:30 today?

The tablet for its price is extraordinary but I was wondering whether or not the lower capacities would still be sold and at what prices..
Thankyou

Take a bow Google, take a bow. 32gb for £200 and lets face it the 3g version won't be much more, Google are not going to suddenly relax their aggressive Apple pipping price plan.

Strangely I was able to pick up a 32GB Nexus 7 at the weekend from my good friends at Currys. I'd gone in to get a 16GB and was pleasantly surprised when I got to the till after some initial confusion of why I was paying £199.

currys now sells the 16 gb model for £169

Google are going to smash apple on nexus vs ipad mini sales. Originally I was after the ipad mini but £239 vs £449 is a no brainer.

Somebody mentioned it has an SD card slot - was this just a rumour?

I'm absolutely fuming, I only bought the 16GB a few weeks ago for £200 as I expected the 32GB to be more expensive so I didn't see the point in waiting. Guess I'll have to try n return it now. Not expecting them to accept the return now. Thanks very much Google!

i'm now glad I waited for the 32gb

I have a Nexus 7 (16gb) and an iPad 3. I was under impressed by the iPad mini because of it's price (though the build quality looks good). And also feeling slightly miffed (not much) that Google have made the price changes so soon after releasing the original Nexus. Having said that I'm pretty wedded to my Nexus 7 and iPad. However,... I installed Windows 8 (£25) on an old touch screen PC. It's not totally finished, or consistent, and shows links to its windows 7 predecessor. But, it makes android and IOS look rather samey, and a bit boring in comparison. My next phone (currently iPhone 5 & HTC OneX) and tablet may be windows 8 devices (heresy!)

its already in currys/pc world! :0) x

The 16 GB is now listed at £159 on the Google Play Store.
There will be some rather annoyed people out there who paid £199 only a couple of weeks ago, or £179 only 2 days ago.

Why no micro SD card slot? I have no interest in any device that does not have one, which in this case is a crying shame. This seems to be a growing trend, and I have to admit I do not understand it.

Bought 16g model in Sept. Runs like a dream, one of the best gadget purchases I've made. Bought 32g (unlocked) for husband as birthday gift November 26th - delivered November 28th. Awful. Stopping and starting, kept losing screen colour and now blacked out completely and on way back to Google for replacement.
On the up side, Goggle's customer service is brilliant. No fuss, just sending replacement immediately and a returns label to post this one back. I can only assume shortage has meant rushed orders on the Nexus 7's and this has lead to my 'dodgy' one.

Bought Nexus 7 32gb from Currys on CPW price match for £177.
