Google's Nexus 7 tablet will apparently bump up to 32GB of storage, in a new model featured in Argos' Christmas guide. Even better, the beefier version will be offered for only £200, the same price as the current 16GB model.
The Nexus 7 product page on the Google Play store still isn't willing to acknowledge the existence of the higher-capacity model. Rumours of the device have been circling for a while now though and its appearance in the Argos catalogue -- spotted by TeckComesFirst -- pretty much makes it a done deal, assuming it's not a misprint.
The current Nexus 7 models are available in only 8 and 16GB capacities, which while capacious enough for the bare essentials, doesn't offer much extra room for bumper apps such as Nova 3 or Real Racing 2 that can take up a couple of gigabytes each. The Nexus 7 sadly doesn't allow for expandable storage with a microSD card, so it's wonderful to finally see a roomier model on offer.
The listed price is particularly surprising, as it's basically the same as the 16GB variant. If correct, it would most likely indicate Google intends to drop the price of the other models. If you're hoping to invest in a tiny tablet before Christmas, it could well be worth holding off for a couple of weeks, as you could potentially grab yourself a bargain.
The current price for the 8GB model is a mere £160. If the 32GB model pushes the prices down across the board, we could be looking at a sub-£140 price tag. That would be ludicrously cheap considering what the Nexus packs in. Not only does it boast a powerful quad-core chip, it has a high-definition screen and the latest Android Jelly Bean operating system. Google might alternatively discontinue the 8GB and switch the current pricing scheme to the 16GB and 32GB versions.
Apple's much-discussed iPad mini looks set for a launch this coming Tuesday, so it's probably wise to wait and see what it has in store. Rumours point towards a 7.85-inch screen, and a much more affordable price than the full-sized iPads. It's unlikely it'll challenge the Nexus 7's price tag though, so if you're on a budget I expect Google will still be the best value.
Does the extra capacity appeal, or are you keen to see an even lower price on the 8GB version? Let me know your thoughts on the Nexus 7 and the upcoming iPad mini in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.

Doesn't pay to be an early adopter does it.
Thanks Google!!!

This article is wrong, the cost of the 16GB nexus 7 has been lowered by most stores. I would buy one of these but 7 inches is to small for comfortable web browsing, or at least I think so.

Fantastic news! Storage capacity was the only major problem for me with the Nexus 7.

You cant worry to much about newer models comming out with better hardware, or else you should not be adopting electronincs especially like tablets and mobile computers early. Wait instead for a price drop when the newer versions come out, or when they are pushed by the competion.
Other things might not be as bad as some electronics. However even with Video Games, you can pay $60 the day it comes out, or wait a few months and many times see it drop to around $30 or $40 depending on how popular it is. Its still the same game, despite newer shinier ones being out.
Same with movies, see it once in theater for $14 or own it on DVD a little later for the same price, and watch unlimited times. The difference is you might get to tell your friend you saw it before they did.
Besides, Early Adopting in this case means I also got a $25 Google Play store credit. Im quite content with that. Thanks, Google.

Do hope that people who at least got the 16GB like me will get some sort of reward for having a smaller memory, same priced model so quickly. :L
Maybe we get another voucher?? Or when (if) wallet comes to UK we get money, they don't??

A lot of people are forgeting that the early adopters got £15 free Play Store Credit meaning that it cost £185 (unless you got it for less), the people buying it now are not getting that. I have downloaded all the apps and games I need, even more than I needed so I am still happy.

Most reports on other tech news sites suggest the 32GB model is replacing the outgoing 16GB model at the same price point and that the 8GB model will stay at the same price.

boo google - knew I shouldn't have got a Nexus 7 so quickly. Having said that it is a great bit of kit. The only real problem being the meagre storage. 3g might have been nice. But I'm tethering and it's more flexible and cheaper than having it built in.

Just use the nexus media importer from play store and small cable to add a flsh drive to expand the memory, Not pretty but saves you buying another nexus 7..

I'll be selling my 16GB Nexus 7 then.

I wanted to love the nexus 7. But after 3 returns due to screen lift I gave up. And don't tag me as an apple fanboy, I'd never consider an ipad due to the cost. I hope they've fixed this issue before updating it, as usual an email to Asus was met with stoney silence...

HMV have it listed for release on the 29/10/12

Well I went into my local Argos yesterday to enquire about this and got some blank looks!! It is listed on their delivery system as reaching their warehouse on the 18th November!! If you put the catalogue number from the gift catalogue into the search bar on their website - it cant find it yet!!
No idea when we might get our hands on one then - but maybe in November - I guess I am just going to have to be patient.

I went into argos today and enquired about it, they said they'll get them in their warehouse on Nov 18th
dancooper93 22 October, 2012 15:20
I also went into Argos today and I was told the 18th of November, hoping to pick one up somewhere earlier than that though!

I want to get my hands on the nexus 10 but the weather in the USA seems to have put a stop to it for now, just have to wait until Google can come out of hiding.
