Did the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 just get certified?

A new Samsung device has just shown up over at the FCC -- the Federal Communications Commission, the bods responsible for greenlighting tech for sale in the US -- and it could well be the Galaxy Note 8.0, Engadget reports.

The device's product code matches up with one spotted by SamMobile last year, which pegged the screen size as somewhere between 7 and 9 inches. Which would fit the bill for the Note 8.0.

The device is labelled as a "personal tablet", and a size comparison from SizEasy confirms it'll fit somewhere between the 10.1-inch Note 10.1, and 5.5-inch Note 2. So what of the specs?

It should be powered by a 1.6GHz processor, according to the FCC's documents. We've also heard it'll have a 1,280x800-pixel display, and a 5-megapixel camera.

Earlier in the week, the device was spotted being used out and about. It looks typically Samsung, a bit like a big Galaxy S3, with a home button in the centre at the bottom. It's perfectly sized to take on the iPad mini and Nexus 7, if Samsung can get the price right, that is. And that's a big if. Though it shouldn't have any trouble offering it at a decent price, considering its profits jumped by a ridiculous 76 percent in the last three months of 2012 compared to the same period the year before.

While we may be speculating about the tablet, there's no doubt on when it'll be unveiled. Samsung boss JK Shin has already said we'll see it in the flesh at Mobile World Congress, which kicks off on 25 February in Barcelona -- so not long to wait.

What would you like to see from the Galaxy Note 8.0? Can it take on the iPad mini? And how much would you be willing to pay? Let me know in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.

I am super excited that they are releasing note 8.0. It will definetly crush apple. One thing I'm wondering is if it will be able to connect an hdmi for the tv. What I would love to see as far as price maybe around $250.

This will be much better than the lacklustre Nexus 7 and a real competitor for the Kindle Fire.
An 8" screen will be far more useable than the 7" narrow screens on the competitions devices.
