Asus has delayed the Android update for the Asus Transformer tablet yet again -- and fans are seriously angry. Promised for this month, Ice Cream Sandwich will now land on the popular tablet some time in March.
Asus announced the news on its Singapore Facebook page, thanking fans for their patience and understanding. These are qualities sorely lacking in the comments on the post, however, with fans saying things like, "I am you customer. I fell angry. I was betrayed", "That will delay again, Liar ASUS" and "I swear I will never ever buy a product from Asus".
Nice sense of perspective there, guys. I love a software update as much as the next man, but surely this is a bit of an overreaction... aw screw it, I can think of ten reasons why Ice Cream Sandwich beats Gingerbread -- I want my Ice Cream Sandwich! Asus you am liar!
There must be someone who's philosophical about the whole thing, surely. Aha: one fan says, "You do a great job..." -- that's better -- "at destroying trust!" Oh. Er.
The Transformer's update was promised in February, but as the clock ticks down on the month Asus is wobbling on the exact date, hedging its bets with a date of "Feb/March". Honestly, it's a leap year -- Asus has had a whole extra day to get this thing done!
The Transformer's sequel, the brand new Asus Transformer Prime, has suffered some problems with its Ice Cream Sandwich update, but Asus has announced an update that fixes problems with rebooting.
Do you own a Transformer? Are you angry about the state of Android updates? Is a delayed update enough to make you swear off a product or company entirely? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Oh look another badly implemented android update lmao, one day they will get it right and perhaps ALL android devices will get an update in the SAME century lmao.

I have bought and paid for an Asus Prime but the likelihood of getting it any time soon is so remote that I have bought an Zenithink ZT-280 C91 10.2 came from Hong Kong in three days its great and it was half the price it has Android 4 OS, but I will welcome the Asus when I get it

I've given up on the Transformer prime. maybe it will appear in a wi-fi reliable form, maybe it will get ICS before I'm old and maybe the promised version running Windows 8 will appear one day, but I went out this week and bought a 12.1" Ee Slate EP121 running Windows 7. Apps availability- I hear you ask. Apps is a teenage buzzword for software. This has available a mountain of free and shareware that people have been writing for windows since time immoral. It's superb and I don't think about the silly saga of the Transformer any longer.

not sure what your on about, the Prime has ICS and has had it for ages now
anonymous 17 February, 2012 11:59
What a load of rubbish THE PRIME DOES NOT HAVE ICS
anonymous 17 February, 2012 13:01
Yes it does. Why are you intentionally lying to people?
anonymous 17 February, 2012 13:14
Prime does have ICS - I bought mine last week and it sits on Android 4.0.3! Dont know what this guys on about?
anonymous 17 February, 2012 15:25
Prime has ICS, and it's freaking awesome, GPS works, WIFI has great connectivity, screen is beautiful. Battery life superb and IMG I do love being able to use a real keyboard what I want to.
Prints no problem to my HP e-print, Citrix client works fantastic, browser is responsive. Yeah Baby!

tbh I don't see the problem with a delay in getting ICS for my original transformer (TF101). In my experience Asus have been fantastic in updating my tablet since I got it last year at release (from memory I've had about 6-8 updates). Having had the 'experience' of motorola product support and updates (or should I say lack of them - an absolute disgrace and I will NEVER buy motorola again) I personally am more than happy with Asus' continued support.
anonymous 17 February, 2012 15:35
Dude wtf are you taking about. I have ICS on my prime since January 10th. You might be talking about the original transformer. Do some research before you start writing.

I see that manners are no longer taught in school. Would you speak like this face to face? Probably not, you'd be scared of being hit.

It really does appear that the Prime's 'radio waves don't pass through brushed aluminium' followed by the 'TF300T will be here so we're not too fussed about the Prime issues' added up to a lot of hard feelings with consumers and lost sales for Asus (me included, buying the TF101 instead of the Prime as it's basically sub - standard stock and roulette if you get a good one) - but at the hands of what could prove their costliest PR nightmare, you would think they would make their best endeavours to either provide honest and accurate release dates, or just work even harder to keep to published dates... instead they are just compounding the alienation of current owners, and losing the confidence of future buyers... very dangerous territory to ward off both groups. On the other side of the coin, the updates are at the leading edge of the Android phenomenon, and the devices were designed to run with 3.x with the option to upgrade, not just settling for the old out of necessity until the new arrived, so the knee jerk reaction of the more extreme posters is naive to expect new territory to be conquered without setbacks. If every TF101 is the same then like mine, surely it does everything you bought it for prior to ICS becoming the issue. If not, I suspect the tab is more of a trendy must have to you than the powerful tool it should be, ICS or not.

What do you mean delayed again? Update was today. OTA installed no problem.

My TF101 it's running fine. No problems with Honeycomb. I'm fine waiting a few more weeks for ICS. I'd rather have a well tested, smooth running ICS in a few weeks than the one they don't want to release today.
anonymous 18 February, 2012 03:21
They put out a bad product and they know it, now we are the ginny piggs, they got your money so wait till they put outthe update. At least UK customers had the option for a full refund.
anonymous 18 February, 2012 03:45
i have come home every day this month and done a manual update on my wife's tf101 hoping ICS would automagically be ready to install...and everyday i have been disappoointed.
i expect people and companies to do exactly what they say they will do. if you aren't sure, don't make any claim until you are 100% sure you can meet it.
i still love the tf101, but hate being lied to and deceived. I won't go so far as to say that i would never buy asus again, but the next time i post about ICS not being on this tablet, it wont be from this tablet :)
anonymous 18 February, 2012 13:15
Really not sure what some people are complaing about. My Prime arrived Monday this week and on setting up on Tuesday Android 4 downloaded automatically and installed. Is that not Ice Cream Sandwich? No issues with WiFI or GPS. Excellent piece of kit.
anonymous 18 February, 2012 16:09
God's sake, get a grip, mildly annoying a few days later, but do you want ICS that trashes your tablet or a working copy. Get some realism, Asus didn't have to give you ICS at all. My HTC Desire is so lacking in memory it won't upgrade, so thank yourselves lucky. Loking 4wrd to ICS :-)
anonymous 18 February, 2012 19:26
i am very happy with my tf201 i got a few weeks ago with the update. (was able to get it for 400.00 as an open box) after clearing the cache it has been performing wonderfully. WiFi is strong and gps i do not use. i just wish i could buy accessories locally, there is always Amazon. the one thing Asus needs to do is get their inventory to catch up to demand and finally unlock the bootloader for the geek community.
anonymous 19 February, 2012 02:08
Considering the Asus Transformer will probably be the first of the existing Tablets other than the Prime to get the ICS update, I don't mind waiting a couple extra weeks. Asus has been quickly updating the HoneyComb OS frequently since I bought mine several months ago. Asus has always delivered great products, so them wanting to put out a solid version for the Transformer just makes sense....
anonymous 19 February, 2012 16:45
I really don't understand what everyone is talking about. I have had ICS on my Prime for weeks now. How can some people have it and others not? It almost sounds like the Android haters have launched a disinformation campaign.
anonymous 19 February, 2012 18:13
Having worked in the embedded software field for 20+ years, this is a standard problem with giving out a delivery date for a development task. There are times when you run into that "one problem" that takes a week or two to fix. Do you really want code that crashes once a day?
Consumers don't understand that when an update comes out on one product, the update for a different product is a totally new development task. This is not the consumers fault though. This is what marketing is all about. Managing customers expectations. If they had originally said March and brought it out in February, everyone would be singing their praises...

I think people need to put things in perspective here.
This post is about the Asus Transformer TF101, which is a great tablet and gives you the freedom and familiarity of an ANDROID device that works like your phone but has the advantage of a decent sized screen, keyboard (if you want), etc.
As I see it the only mistake Asus has made is to raise users expectations. How many other ANDROID devices are running ICS today? The Answer is not many. So if Asus can get their ICS update for the Transformer out in the next month or so, as far as I am concerned they are doing OK.
So lets all just calm down and wait for the ICS update to come. I'm sure for the vast majority of users, like me, it will be a small step forward, but I know when it does arrive you will get just as many posts with things that are not quite right with ICS and lots of complaints about this or that that doesn't work properly.
Why not just enjoy your tab and let Asus continue to develop and bring to market more great devices as they have done in the past.

Woo look, CNET reporting last weeks news as usual.
Not only have you misquoted, "February/March timeframe" does not mean March.... It's also been clarified to be Feb.
*********.
anonymous 20 February, 2012 15:13
I have ICS for my transformer and I have had it for a while
anonymous 21 February, 2012 12:39
it says FEBRUARY/March..........not just March! Nothing like a bit of drama to boost your hits.
Havent seen Asus PROMISE anything either. Maybe Google should just stop giving updates names, boring old Apple dont and you dont see any of their weir..d....em fans crying over the pointless updates they get week in week out.
anonymous 28 February, 2012 10:54
Have had the TF101 for more than 6 months. A great device. I really didn't expect an software upgrade. Most suppliers are more interested in getting you to buy their latest and greatest. ASUS seems more focused on customer service. I can remember waiting impatiently for an upgrade to windows mobile 6.5 for my HTC phone. Now there a gripe was justified. Here it is not.
anonymous 1 March, 2012 06:37
My transformer (not prime) updated to ICS on the 26th of February. Pretty good so far!
jaam 4 March, 2012 09:26
Mine got updated in Feb as per their promise as it is beautiful. Doesn't feel like beta software which honeycomb always did. Very happy with update and everything works so much better.
anonymous 5 March, 2012 17:57
ICS no probs so farTransformer Prime is excellent especially when compared to IP2 in my opinion, can't see what all the complaints are about
anonymous 14 March, 2012 10:53
My feeling is for the thousands of Prime owners (ASUS called it "a small number") that trusted ASUS and updated their Prime to ICS and is now is a proud owner of a useless brick that hangs, and requires a hard reset, every 2-5 mins. THEY ARE THE REAL VICTIMS HERE!!!
I was fortunate enough to return my unit screwed up unit!! I am still waiting for this bad "pre-April Fool's joke" to end before re-purchasing a Prime. Of course, assuming that nothing better comes along before then.
As for all the whiners out there with a working "pre-ICS" unit, I would suggest that you get some cookies with that. I have the world's smallest violin playing for you guys. Grow up! At least your $600+ Prime is still useable!
