Asus F8P: White-hot leather laptop

Vegetarians should look away right about now -- Asus has unveiled yet another leather-clad laptop aimed at posers, fashionistas and pretty much anyone from Essex. Ladies and chavs, introducing: the new and updated Asus F8P Stylebook.

We're being terribly harsh here. The F8P is prettier than most laptops and is available in black as well as white. The palm rest is finished in real leather and the lid in a matching ivory effect -- although we doubt the latter is derived from the tusk of an actual elephant. Shiny metal accents around the edge and above the keyboard round off a truly elegant package.

The specs are pretty good too. It uses the latest Penryn-based Core 2 Duo processors, an ATI HD 2400 256MB dedicated graphics chip, fingerprint reader, 1,440x900-pixel screen and swivelling 1.3-megapixel webcam. You also get a 250GB hard drive, 1GB of Intel Turbo Memory, 802.11a/b/g/n wireless and Bluetooth.

Asus is touting the F8P as 'high-end luxury for a low price', so we're expecting it to cost between £600-£1,200 depending on specification. Watch for a full hands-on very shortly, and click through for more pics. -Rory Reid
